I too am wondering if anyone has insider info on the trail angel...
I kind of doubt he's there again, but someone else might be...
Loved the Chex box photoshop job, Joe. Awesome!
No insider info, but i went thru there about 2 wks ago and he was there & he mentioned how cool it was to be there when the CT racers came thru! I think he goes back to Gunny at nite tho, so hope everyone planned accordingly His name is Apple.

I've started to think that to go fast, and try to stay upright with a full load, a lenz milk money might be the way to go rather than a rigid karate monkey ss. For those of you to whom this is balderdash biking jargon, here is a 29" tall, single-speed, rigid karate monkey looking for his milk money:

Ryan called me this morning from Breckenridge, in good spirits. We figured out his tracker is only uploading when he pushes the OK button. He put new batteries in this morning, and has been putting it near the outside of his pack when it isn't pouring. Is there anything else I should suggest the next time he calls in (probably Leadville)? I will mention what I read here earlier, about having it in Track mode, not OK mode, although I won't actually know what I'm talking about when I say that.

Yep, he just needs to hold down the OK button until the OK light turns off. If you only press it for a second, it's in OK mode. It takes about 5 seconds to get into track mode.

Looks like Jeff K and Ethan are both almost to the hwy 114 crossing. I am sure they will be happy to have the slow, demoralizing, nasty section they are now finishing in their rear view mirrors!!
Will be interesting to see if their spots stop for few min at the possible magic tent location and then how far they push on tonight into the upcoming ‘easy’ riding

1.) Turn the unit off (Press and Hold the On/Off Button, ~5 seconds). LED goes off 2.) Turn the unit on (Press On/Off button briefly) 1 LED goes on and blinks. 3.) Enable tracking mode. (Press and Hold the /*OK*/ Button, ~5 seconds.) The OK LED will go on while you are holding it down. After it goes off, 2 LEDs blinking simultaneously indicates tracking mode is enabled.

Thank you Doug and Scott for the Tracker explanations. I will pass that information on to Ryan the next time he calls.

4) Later, if you notice the two LEDs are no longer blinking simultaneously the unit has lost its satellite synchronization—just rinse and repeat dwj’s steps 1-3 to re-sync it (the Spot might lose sync if you say take it into a building for 20-30 min or say you turn your backpack upside down during a long break, [the Spot logo needs to be postitioned to always point to the sky for best results!!!!!!] )

Looks to be a gnarly cell getting together just to the northwest of Jeff and Ethan. I hope they can at least dodge it or stay on the outskirts of it.

Hi all! I got to see all the John's ( ok, 2 John's and 1 Jon) Steve Lacy, Zack Guy and Aaron Weinsheimer coming off Mtn. Princeton between 5:30 and 6 tonight. John Fettis had a close call with lighting and it sounded like they all pushed through some deep hail. All the fellows were cold and wet but in great spirits! They all regrouped at the Mtn. Princeton store before heading(maybe?) off south into some very heavy weather, the road is closed west of the hotsprings so they may have to detour. The wash out below the Chalk cliffs has been flooding almost every afternoon so anyone coming behind them may run into the same thing. I took a bunch of photo's and I will try and post them in a bit, man am I glad to be safe warm and dry, it is going to be a long miserable night out there! Keep charging ya'll are badass!
Cheers, P.T.

Sure enough, Jeff spent at least an hour at Trail Angel Apple's magic spot. It appears that he was there long enough that Ethan caught him. Still not certain, but it appears that they may have left together.
The plot thickens...

Toby Gadd called in from Leadville after taking a slo’mo trip over the bars. Nathan Gallion called in from a hut above Copper Mountain. And Andy Farish called in from Leadville. He got some encouragement along the way.

has anyone seen or heard from Steve Lacey since 6:00pm? This is his wife and I haven't seen his spot move for quite a while. I know if could just be his spot not tracking. Just want to make sure he's okay.

Just spoke to Jon's wife and she said they did, indeed, decide to go for it. Stay safe!

In my never ending quest for GPS/mapping/racing geekiness, I present the CTR storyboard! http://trackleaders.com/ctr-storyBasically it's a plot of time vs. route distance achieved, for multiple racers. It might take a second to understand what's being shown, but you can get some pretty cool insights on the race. You can see lead changes, watch gaps between racers grow and shrink, and also compare their sleeping habits. Stopped time shows up as horizontal (or near horizontal) lines. You can see where Jeff passed Ethan, and that Ethan has now closed that gap due to a very tiny (hard to see) stop for Jeff at the trail angel. They are now riding together it would seem. Also, below the story board graph (on the page linked above) is a "standings" chart that shows the tracker's best guess at the current placement, and how many miles are covered by each racer. Note that this is approximate -- especially if someone doesn't get a point for a while, they may fall down in the standings temporarily. Once they get another point they should show up in the right spot. Let me know if you notice anything amiss -- it's definitely experimental. Also, I'm open to any other ideas along these lines.... Thanks.

Nice way to look at things, Scott. What I'm really hoping for next is real-time heart rate, calories expended/consumed, and brainwave activity. Think you could throw something together? Seriously, this site and TrackLeaders is a pleasure to follow, thanks for all your work. (Donation on the way once I figure out the Paypal registration process).
(As for brain activity, I'm pretty sure this is how looks for most riders right now: _______________________________________... Maybe a couple of blips here and there when the lightning strikes nearby.)

Scott - I love the storyboard. One thing amiss is that you really should have Kerkove in Ergon green not that baby blue color.

Quick, someone tell Cat to turn around---looks like she went left instead of right
I seem to remember that this is about, or just before, the same area she got in some bonus miles in 09------
edit--humm , never mind?, maybe just a bivy spot-----
