It's tough to see another racer and friend bail out, especially when he is as strong as Dave Harris is. I feel like his race was not against time, but rather against himself or better said, the ability to ride at high altitudes. I know a few of us can relate to this battle against disabilities, diseases, etc.
Great fight Dave, I look forward to riding with you in October...
I'm wondering if Dave is OK. I guess he's heading for Silverton, but he sure is taking a wierd route. Does anyone know that terrain and area?

Ah, if only it were so. The business of determining if someone actually passed a checkpoint is a lot more difficult than it first seems. It can be done better than it is now, certainly, but there are some subtleties to it.
No problem, Scott. BTW, it shouldn't be too difficult, at some future point, to change the program so that racers must pass within say 100 ft of the GPS coordinates of a checkpoint in order to officially pass it.
e.g. the SPOT only updates every 10 minutes, and even half of those data-points don't go through, so GPS points are not likely to be anywhere near the checkpoints...

Yes. Cinnamon Pass. The CTR '07 and '08 followed this 4WD road instead of the Colorado Trail in the interest of "ridability" Cinnamon Pass is a walk in the park on a bike compared to Coney/Cataract.

ANNOUNCING THE 2010 CTR RAMSTRONG AWARD
I want to put up a award for the racer er...........lunatic who stays out the longest and lives to tell about it! I'm pretty poor so no cash involved, but I will give the opportunity to place an UNLIMITED wholesale order with my bike wholesaler to the last rider into Junction Creek. I will also donate $50.00 to the charity that I rode for last year RAMSTRONG in the name of the rider. I hope this will give a tiny incentive to the racer willing to hold off on pulling the plug and suffer the longest in their quest to finish. Chances are that your bike and gear will be battered and torn up so this could take the sting out of replacing you tires, drivetrain, brakepads, wheels and who knows what else got trashed. If anyone has questions about the logistics or who should actually win the award, we will have a thread discussion to vote in the recipient. Since I did not do 22 and 23 last year (I rode Cinnamon Pass), so sticking to the official course is not as important as just making it. Please talk amongst yourselves..............................

I haven't had any verbal contact with DH but he did shoot an OK message from his Spot. So I am assuming he is ok! He uses the OK's very sparingly.

Great report, Jeff! Very detailed with great pics. Truly an amazing feat (pardon the pun). I have a new found respect for all who attempted this race.

Brian Butrico gives a status on Bob. He apparently picked up some bad pizza.

Looks like in the last hour with the first finishers. I think Ethan is in the all downhill section now. What a relief. Wow I can't wait to hear his and JJ's story! I guess its still possible that JJ can take a lead, anything could happen.

Ethan's Last timestamp was 1 hour 49 min ago. Jesse's was 19 min ago. Ethan may still be in the lead just not updating location?? exciting...

I am indeed OK. Two swollen knees (over the bars on seg 16 at 3AM, now that's exciting), broken small toes on each foot, the return of altitude demons...one hard f'n event this year. Did spend some quality time with Jefe...rock on MR MOJO! My bivy spot was so comfy last night I decided to sleep for 12 hours (and it was blissful) and woke up to a field of raspberries, ate at least a pound to fuel the bail out plan. More when I get back to civilization. Gawd I miss the warm dry desert.

no, you're reading it right. ethan is probably on the final downhill by now. he might have waxed a bit superstitious towards the end and powered down. More when I get back to civilization. Gawd I miss the warm dry desert.
strong riding dave! Yep, ball up in the SPOT tracker.
you too jeff!
