I am indeed OK. Two swollen knees (over the bars on seg 16 at 3AM, now that's exciting), broken small toes on each foot, the return of altitude demons...one hard f'n event this year. More when I get back to civilization. Gawd I miss the warm dry desert.
DHHHH!!! we're sooo glad to hear from you!!! way to ride, DH!! strong and BIG! so sorry to hear of the troubles and issues... take good care of yourself --- and holler if you need anything. ed and i send you lots and lots of love! jj

Ryan called from Buena Vista about 2 pm today. He camped at Mount Massive last night, which turned out to be cold and wet but not too cold to sleep. He is still going strong and on the schedule he had set for himself. He reported a little bit of a headache, and sore heels but no blisters. I related Jeff's experience but I don't think I was able to convince him to stock up on Moleskin. Otherwise he is feeling fine physically and was off to eat more. He might stop in Salida, but more than likely I won't get another call from him until Durango.
Congratulations to those who are finishing already! I hope all who had to pull out recover quickly. And I'll be following the Ramstrong challenge as well!

Way to go Ethan! I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that doing this trail in that kind of time ranks right up there with the hardest physical feats in the world. Especially with the rain and weather. You are superhuman! You too Jesse! Amazing riding!

Congrats to Ethan and Jesse!!! Damn impressive rides and very close race throughout -- check the story board plot.
So sorry to hear about the troubles Dave. I really thought this was your year. The crash sounds scary. Glad you are OK.
Sean Allan has been "unscratched" on the tracker and is showing rocking right along. Nice!

Episode CTR10 Day 5 is up! Way to go, Jesse! Sorry, in the time it took to record, mix, and post you came in! If I wasn't East coast I would have waited a bit longer. :/

Just want to say were right behind John Fettis back here in the UK .... Sounds like its one hard race out there. Keep pushing John there's a cold beer waiting for you !!! John is having a very good race—he should have some good comparison tales between the TDR and the CTR when he gets home (oh & I thought it was ‘warm’ beer in the UK?) Anyway it’s about 10:30pm and John’s Spot is still going last I checked. He is really really really doing this section the hard way--at night. High, rocky, steep and truly technical in a few in places & not a lot to offer in the way of a bivy if it turns nasty and even just the wind kicking up can make it sort of intimidating up there. If this is his 1st time thru here (I assume it is) I hope he has good lights to see trail and is good with the GPS to make all the right turns etc etc. On the other hand this IS the most striking/beautiful CT section imo

really hoping that John's Point #354 is just a spot error and not a course deviation...

I totally sympathize with the mom's and dad's out there following their loved ones thru the amazing and riveting spot tracker! Imagine your loved one out there without a spot!!!!!??? My boyfriend Mark Caminiti is out there without a spot? I myself think its crazy and it kinda pisses me off cuz i can't even see his progress or know if he is ok? i just get sporadic calls when he has cell service. He did the same thing during the AZT, which he completed the whole 750 grueling miles. Rattlesnakes and all!!! I trust that he knows what he is doing and the preparation and dedication to biking lite, is well like a science, and he is a hmmm, like a Italian Magruder.... And I just wanted to add that Mark is an amazing person and his feats of human tenacity are inspirational to me. He is a workhorse and keeps slogging along no matter what the conditions are. Mark is a CTR veteran with 2007, 08, 09, and now hopefully 10? He completed all but 07, he had to bail @ I believe Cinnamon pass because he had to get back to work, btw. it was another Monsoon season and his first attempt! I believe if Mark finishes this race he will be the first person to have completed both CTR & AZT in one season. I am very proud of my baby... he would never toot his own horn but I can. hehehe. Congrats, Ethan & Jesse, cheering for ya Jefe wow what a strong ride it was fun to watch, now please talk Mark into using a freakin spot!

Yes John seems off track on his last spot but perhaps he's just dropped down off the high section to bivvy up ? He has Vista with him so i'm sure he didn't miss a turn... I hope !

Ethan, Jesse, and Jefe -- congratulations!!! This one will definitely go down in the history books as one of the wettest, hardest, craziest CTRs. You guys are some bad mofos. You have redefined "cajones GRANDE" in my book. Rest up, heal up, and enjoy some warm, dry, peaceful days ahead.
Take care, Owen
And Dave, way to ride it out. Sorry about the crash, but glad to hear you are okay.

Hey! It's Emily Brock and I am scratching in Salida. Got halfway up Section 15 to Marshall Pass late last night before I bailed off the route (2am-ish, down Green Creek trail to a gravel road). I'd been struggling with low level edema and fluid in the lungs pretty much since the first day and it got way worse whenever I was over 11k. Sleeping in the rain was definitely making it worse, too. Sections 13 and 14 were super fun riding under 10k, but once I started climbing again on 15 the issues came back. I knew it was time to scratch before I got committed to more high altitude riding. Also, my SPOT got ripped off my pack somewhere along the latter part of Section 14. Guess I was shredding the gnar pretty hard out there or something (ha) and it just ripped off. I can see exactly where it is thanks to the tracker... any one want to go grab it for me? I had an awesome time out there, thanks Stefan and everyone for throwing such a fun party!! What a great great trail.
