Hello everyone in the "real" world, just a quick post CTR update. So I rolled into junction creek at 9:am saturday. Wow what an action packed five days....wet start that put me in a bad mood way too soon, and it was an up and down ride from there on. I rode a bit with Ezhster around georgia pass, she was riding strong. Rode bunches with Dave Harris, man I love that guy! In fact he saved my ass in the Cotchetopa hills when I cracked, oh I cracked. I was sitting there head down, defeated, looking for a quick exit to Gunny. He said three things and took off, somehow I snapped out of it and got my motor running. Unfortunetly he stopped for a nap mid cotchetopa hills and I raged on, I expected him to catch me as he always did, but never say him a again. In fact never saw any racers till the finnish, where I bumped into Ethan. So first three days, poor mood, bad weather, last two days, happy as can be, riding good, weather better. Highlites, momma bear and two cubs outside of bailey, riding with DH (and moteling, cabin sleeping, laughing). Cataract, I forgot who unbelieveable that area is, if you don't know, FIND OUT!!! Finding my happy cruising self, finally! Another cool thing was how may folks out there I talked to and how stoked there were with the race and us racers out there pushing ourselves, neat to see people into something I always thought was just cool for us bikepackers. OK enough rambling,I am tired as can be and need to stop. Nice work everyone!!! Remember what DH told me, never quit in the dark, always wait to the next day, daylight can make a big difference, keep on rocking.....Jefe

Way to go Jefe! Sure was fun watching and listening from my nice dry chair. I can't imagine days at a time in those conditions. Christie says, "Right on!" Spike says get some rest, he highly recommends it.

That was an experience of a life time! I've been obsessed with doing this for the last 6 months and it gave me the motivation to pour everthing I had into it. My commitment was severely tested when I made the decision to head over the ten mile range in the cold rain with darkness looming. I lied to myself that I'd find a hotel when I made it over the other side. Instead I just found a soaked Ethan looking for a place to bivy and we took shelter under a chairlift. Day two had me physically worn and day 3 was a mental struggle to get through Sergeants Mesa and running away from a charging bull didn't help the situation. Day 4 brought new energy and I was climbing strong up the dirt roads. Shortly after Hwy 149 to my disbelief I caught back up to Ethan. But only got within 100 yards of him when he yelled back to ask who it was and when I answered he bolted. I guess I smelled really bad by that point! Unfortunately for me I got too excited and didnt fill up with water at the last stream. I had to sip puddle cups on rocks and then found a nasty little mud puddle to fill up my bottle. But things were still going good and I had the hope of hitting silverton before the stores closed but the last 20 miles were way harder than I anticipated. I didn't reach the town till 10pm and with little food left I had no choice but to sleep in a ditch and wait till 7am for the store to open. Precious time was lost but I didn't have a choice and needed calories. The last push on the final day was hard. I had to keep reminding myself even half way through there was a hell of a lot left to go. Fortunately the weather was really stable on that last day and I never felt the same terror that the first day brought. What a week! -Jesse Jakomait few pics for ya <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td> </td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Colorado Trail Race</td></tr></table> <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td> </td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Colorado Trail Race</td></tr></table> <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td> </td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Colorado Trail Race</td></tr></table> <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td> </td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Colorado Trail Race</td></tr></table> <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td> </td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Colorado Trail Race</td></tr></table>

Tim Krugler called in from Silverton. He’s going to try to push on to Durango, despite threatening skies. Mark Caminiti's girlfriend, Layla, called in to say she got a call from Mark up on Lujan Pass. Not sure what's up with Sean. He's gone off-route to Gunny.

Hello All! If anybody hears from/sees or knows the whereabouts of Nathan Gallion, please give an update. The last update we heard was that he was having some major pain in his achilles tendon. No word since Friday morning. His phone is likely dead and I'm sure he didn't take a charger, even for 'just-in-case'. And his Spot has been 'obliterated'. The family, and various other cheering sections, would love a progress report! Thank you. Amazing job y'all are doing out there Racers!! GO! PUSH! CONQUER! You're all in my prayers!

Hopefully Nathan will be able to call in from somewhere. It's a toll-free line so if he can find a phone he can call.

Chris Miller called in to give a thank you out to the ride he got back to the front range. He's headed back to Durango to pick up Eszter and wants to get word to Ethan that he can give him a ride back too. Ethan, Just call the number on the front of the MTBCast card and I can give you Chris' cell.

Hey All, Lost my MTBcast number so I'll post here in the forum. After losing my first hanger somewhere on the back side of Georgia (I blame DH for this since I was trying to catch him ) I bivied after only 11 hours because I was so freakin cold I couldn't manage the minuscule screws holding it in, the race was over for me right there. The second hanger went after a piece of wire got sucked up in it 100' from HWY 91 in Copper. This one took the cable and housing as well as bending the cable stop. After checking in Copper to be told no one could work on it, I was down to Frisco for the night. Day three was a push from Frisco to Chalk Creek through the torrential rain and hail under Princeton whoo hooo! Got up on day three and made it about 10 miles before a small pine cone(yes that's right!) detonated the last remaining hanger. Made the SS conversion and got it down to Salida where Anton at Absolute Bikes did a bang up job dremeling down a steel Specialized hanger to fit a '10 C-dale Carbon Flash 29er! Rode it around for a bit and it seemed solid, headed back for the Mount Shavano trailhead and the screw fell out and it spun the der around, back to Salida for more screws and some JB weld! At this point I decided to pull it, called MTB cast and said as much. Woke up the next morn and went to the Walmart to get some food for the ride to Edwards to meet my Wife and just decided to F- it and continue on. Made the crappy 3000' climb back up to the trail where I left and motored on. The hanger was working swell for about the first 6 hours, after that I think it must have tempered the steel as it would brush the spokes and bounce around the cassette at every bump, and there's a few of those out past Marshall Pass It was getting to the point that I would have to re-align the hanger every 1/2 mile or so, it was a no brainer to pull it at HWY 114 this morn. Left Steve Lacy this morn and he was headed back down the hill, although we were both unsure where the hell we were, hope he made it to safety. Met a bunch of really nice folks on the trail, those who were doing this not so much a race, but a challenge to themselves were a joy to talk to, reminded me why I do this. I am truly amazed that someone(Owen Murphy) could do that trail in 4 days and change, freaking unbelievable, good weather or not. To this years winners, great job. To this years finishers, even greater job! Thanks a ton to Stefan, Scott and MTB cast for all they do, it was an amazing experience and I hope to do it again.

To Andy Farish... FREAKIN' GOOD JOB, BROTHER! If you had a race number, we'd all have your sticker on the back of our cars. You have the whole Monte Vista and Trailmark community pulling for you. Keep up the awesome pedal power!

Ryan just called from Salida. He stopped by to re-supply before starting the next section and is staying in a local hotel and will be back underway tomorrow morning.
It looks like Nathan's tracker is updating again. Ryan ran into Nathan yesterday (Friday), and said Nathan had slept much of the day in BV. Ryan stopped to camp at the South Cottonwood Trailhead while Nathan pushed on to a later site (Mile 14 of Section 13). Nathan seemed to be doing well and hopefully this puts his family & friends mind at ease.

10:21 pm Just logged on for the day, the radar shows some of the riders are getting some rain, been that way all day? Ya I know-stupid question
Humm, Looks like Eszter Horanyi might be biving up? Her Spot has not moved for about 1.5 hrs. I remember having a short break last yr right about where her Spot is. Also if I remember right there are lots of good bivy spots, ie some thick trees--cover from the rain and fairly flat.
Also looks like John Fettis spent several extra hours in Silverton? Bike issues, weather dodge, or extra meals? But he just flew up the road to Molas Pass so all must be well now……
And I see Cat is still doing very very well. Last yr she pulled a solid 24hr ‘push thru’ to the finish. I wonder if she will bivy up soon (or do a short bivy) or push late?

11:00 pm Upcoming attraction: 4 racers to duke it out from near Molas Pass to the finish tomorrow?? I see that Zach Guy and Matthew Steinwand backtracked down the trail a bit to bivy up together. John Fettis and Cat are not far behind them, will they bivy-find dry shelter at the outhouse by the TH parking lot (I would if it be raining) So-assuming John and Cat stop soon ---Who will get up early, who will finish strong, who will run out of gas and take lot of pictures and rest stops, will they bunch up and ride in together or keep their race face on till the finish-- stay tuned Edit: Garrett Peltonen is in Sliverton right now, someone should call him and get him up 1 hour early and then we could have 5 battling it out to the end

11:10pm WOW, I see Pawel Kudela is Still Moving up in the high lonely country (just past Carson Saddle)
It’s late late and Pawel just passed up the opportunity to bivy at a great spot along Lost Trail Creek, I am impressed!! On the other hand the drop to Catarack Lake is now just ahead—will Pawel stop there?
edit: nope still going at 12:22pm---must really want (need?) to get to Silverton!!!

NL and Ryan, Thank you for that update!! This momma is glad to hear that Nathan got some much needed sleep in BV! I could hear the exhaustion in his voice on the Friday morning call in about the Achilles problem. PRESS ON ALL YOU CRAZY ATHLETES! You are AMAZING! xoxox
