Tim Krugler called in from the finish. He called a couple of times and kept getting cut off, as he did here. But we got enough to know he finished roughly around 2:55p and that should (keep me honest) give him roughly 6:07:40.

This is from the homepage of the CTR -- course description::Spring Creek Pass to Stony Pass Road. - Ride Segments 22, and rerouted (Cataract Ridge) segment 23. Note: This reroute is included in the latest Guidebook, 7th Edition "Revised", as well as the CT Databook, 4th Edition. Pay close attention to the Trailside Databook at the start of Segment 22!.

I hope Nathan Gallion got that trail book he was hoping for in BV.  Wink

How long ago was this conversation?  The last update I rec'd was that Nathan got some sleep in Beuna Vista on Friday and then was on section 13 just west of Salida and doing ok. (Which makes me think his Achilles problem from Friday morning was at least better.)
And I know from the standings board that he's not to Monarch yet.
Was the 'mental state' comment made tongue in cheek?  icon_scratch
If anybody has a more current update I'd appreciate hearing.  I know from all the racers' comments that this trail is brutal. Lack of calories, oxygen, and sleep can really alter a person's wellness.
Anybody?   Thanks.

Ryan camped at Janet's Cabin Thursday night, which is on the route before Leadville.

A few observations:  Nathan's last tracker update was about 25 hours ago.  He's not had a tracker update since, but Lake City is well beyond Monarch Crest and not too far beyond Cochetopa Park (although I don't know exactly where the checkpoint is, I'm just working from some old Trails Illustrated Maps).  His stats probably won't update until his tracker does.  The next closest racer to Lake City is Andy Farish, and he clocked about two days to cover the same distance. Nathan is clearly riding strong and making good time -- I think his time on this section is similar to that of some of the leaders.

I wouldn't read too much into the mental state comment.   Take heart that he is making good time; was last seen very close to a re-supply point should he need to do that; has navigated much of the course well and when he did make a wrong turn, quickly figured it out and asked directions to get himself back on track.  Try not to worry (I know, easier said than done); he should be in Durango in a couple of days.

I found out from somebody in Monarch that Nathan was there yesterday afternoon and got back on the trail at about 4:30p.m.
It's amazing how quickly I fell in love with that little "spot tracker"! I miss him terribly.
Now if I could just figure out where Slumgullion and sections 22-23 are... (man I loved that little "spot"!)

Layla, I feel for you girl! I'm glad your man is calling you on occassion though! (am wishing my son would do the same.)
I also know from Nathan's race history (though never days long before) he is a strong finisher!

If you look at the tracker screen, when the route crosses a paved road that leads to lake city (off route), section 22 & 23 are coming up next

MomG --

Go to the tracking map
Enlarge the the area around Lake City (Use the + key and the arrows on the upper left of the map)
Put it into map mode (boxes on upper right of the map)
See where the course is on CO 149?  I think Smugmullion Pass is where the route first ties into CO149.
I'm not a course expert but I think 22 and 23 are the sections directly after, where the trail leaves CO 149 at Spring Creek Pass.

knowing he was in monarch, now knowing where 22&23 are, and knowing how he finishes usually-- i'm confident he'll be right on target! Smiley

Nathan had the CT book and we looked at the maps briefly.  He was definitely in "Go Mode" trying to make a quick transition and get back to riding.  That is a good sign.

I've been glued to the commentary here since the race began. What an inspiration. Last Sunday I rode the CT from Tennessee Pass to Copper (what a section). I got 15 minutes of hail after climbing above Kokomo Pass and rain all the way back to Copper so I know some of what you hard core guys and gals are doing. I got into Durango last night after midnight to spend some time biking around here. Went out to Jucntion Creek trail head and drove by Eszter as she was headed into town. Sorry I missed her finish, but way to go.

So my question to everyone is whose the oldest guy in the race. I guess at 62 I can only dream, or generate some trail magic.

jeffhigham posted a link to his pix & video early on,  there was a grey beard in there, anybody know who that is?

Also, wondering who the guy w/ the front panniers is & how he's doing?

Nice work Jeff!

Hi All, Just to confirm that I bailed at Bolam Pass (end of segment 25) and took the 578 / 550 route into Durango. 2 excuses: health (bronchial issues), and needing to catch flight home Mon PM (a tad ambitious perhaps?).
Congratulations to all the riders who have finished and those who are still out there. I met some great people out on the CT and all have been pushed to the limit by the conditions.

Cheers,
John

Nathan Gallion called in from Silverton after 100mi and 16hrs in the saddle!

MomG, be aware that your son sounds pretty beat. I've heard a lot of racer audio from the GDR, TD, CTR but this ranks among the most tired I've ever heard a caller. Awesome determination to get to Silverton! icon_salut

(as I mentioned, he always finishes strong! even if he's dragging. he'll just be grumpy on the ride home until he falls asleep.) Wink
"Thank you" hardly seems like enough to say for the relief I'm feeling right now.  icon_biggrin :::insert hug emoticon here:::    I appreciate the effort you "Staff" put into this ride! The coverage is incredible for those of us waiting to hear and just following along. You are an inspirational bunch to say the least!  Nathaniel has been involved in bicycling/trail building since he was a youngster and has become even more interested in helping build and maintain trails since we moved to Colorado three years ago. After hearing all the racers' call ins and seeing these posts all week, I have a new appreciation for the difficult challenge the racers face.  You racers rock!! headbang
