Hey everyone! Great race, beautiful trails, and loved the comraderie and positive vibes out there. and loved the few rays of sunshine that came out.  I'm in Durango hoping to catch a ride in the Denver direction if anyone has room for one person (yes, i showered and won't wreak up your car) and one heap of metal. Please call me 208 371 8046.  In the mean time, I'm going tubing.  cheers.
also, any of you folks i met out on the race hit me up if you pass through bozeman and want to ski or bike.

I'll be up in Livingston over Labor Day weekend, if you're interested in a trail ride.

Zack Guy called in from Durango where he had a beer shower!

Mark Caminiti called in from Silverton. He’s doing well and about to head up and finish tomorrow evening.

Been reading this thread with amazement.  The people who do this race don't seem to belong to the same species I do!

Finally registered to say that and to offer my help for this question:
Was wondering what is the best route from Denver to Durango? 285-to 160 Del Norte to Pagosa?  Or 285 to 50 then 550 Montrose, Ouray Silverton? I am going to head out to pick up Mark C. tomorrow and wanted best and quickest route, I've mapquested and that was a major waste of time. Thanks in advance..Layla

Since I lived in Durango for 6 years and now live in Boulder, I have done this one a LOT over the years.

This is *not* the correct answer:
Fastest - I-25 to Walsenberg, 160 West to Durango. sleepy1

Best - 285 to Poncha Springs, West to Gunny, West to Montrose, S. to Durango.

This is the correct answer.
I've driven from Boulder/Denver/Golden to Durango multiple times over the years and found the fastest was 285 to 112 to 160. The fastest I've done it was about 5 hrs 40 mins.
An alternative to this route is I-70 to Copper, 191 to Leadville, 24 to BV and pick up 285 just south of BV.  It's a few miles longer but time wise is about the same.  And I just read that layla is in Idaho Springs, so the alternative route is best.  If you drive speed limit or a little faster and don't stop (more than a quick gas stop) you can probably make it there in under 6.

Yep, like I said in reply #339.

Hey, Dylan Taylor must have finished by now, right? Does he have to call in to make it official?

He doesn't have to call in.

"Official" simply means the racer has contacted me directly with their finish time rather than depending on their Spot data.  The race is self-timed, so the times listed in the results are based on what racers have communicated to me as their finish times.

Steve Lacey called in from Durango finishing at 7:05:47, admittedly with a route deviation  but still an accomplishment.

Hopefully, he'll get some sleep!  Looks like he did a 30+ hour push from about 149/Slumgullion area.

Any updates on James Leavesley? He's the 'Brit that keeps breaking shit'! Looks like he's been scratched on the start list but I can't find an update... Looks like he and the other Brit, John Fettis, have had similar problems to those I did on the AZT (running out of time, breaking shit!)...

Yes from what i can gather John Fettis ran out of time as he had to be back at work on Tuesday in the UK .... Looks like up till then he was having a good ride given the war zone conditions !! I think the altitude is the biggest battle for riders from far away who get little time to get used to the elevation !

Sorry, I had updated James' status, but forgot to post this email I received from him.  He's probably landed back in the U.K. by now...

Hi Stefan

You have probably already realised this but I scratched on HWY 149. On Friday night my rear tire blew, as the trye wall was coming away from the bead. I patched it up best I could but on sat morning it went again as the wall had split further. So I walked down to Lake City stayed the night, bought a new tire and rode Cinamon pass and the hwy from Silverton to Durango. As I fly out on Monday am I didn't have time to rejoin the trail.

Thanks for organising this great but brutal race, and I hope to be back soon (with better wheels and tires and possibly more time!) to finish it. The trails were great as were the people I met.

Thanks
James

I have not heard any status from Aaron Weinsheimer (his Spot was in Salida 4 days ago).
I have not heard any status from Tom Komoroski (his last Spot outside of B.V. 5 days ago).

If anyone has any info, or if either of you could personally post, please do so.

All others still on course (Jason Johnson, Bill Guerrera, Mark Caminiti, Nathaniel Gallion, Toby Gadd, Andy Farish, Bob Butrico, Ryan Feild).  I expect Jason, Bill, Mark, Nathaniel & Toby will finish up later today.

Love the mugshots.

Esp. the one with DH and Toby Gadd smiling together.  Was that before or after fists were thrown?  Thanks for the pics, Stefan.
