Love the mugshots.

http://www.climbingdreams.net/qdig/?Qwd=./2010/08a%20-%20CTR&Qif=P1010182.JPG&Qiv=thumbs&Qis=L is Sean Allen, a real hammer not often seen in CO...

Thanks, Dave.  I renamed the pic, so the link above is now:

There's still 1 in there with No Name, and a couple others I am unsure about...

Sorry, I had updated James' status, but forgot to post this email I received from him.  He's probably landed back in the U.K. by now...

I rode with James a bit early in the ride.  Turned out we have a mutual friend, Rob Lee http://roblee7ds.blogspot.com/ .  Small world!  I recall reading of James killing a bunch of UK events while on a team with Rob a few years back.  No surprise there cause James looked damn strong out there.  Pretty incredible that CTR draws such talent from overseas.

Aaron Weinsheimer checking in

I dropped out at Marshall Pass with John Folton

Awesome ride, a bit to much weather for this newbie though....  It's good to be dry again.

If I try this again I think hiking shoes might be in order.

Yep!  And after Jeff Kerkove's picture of his "modified" touring shoes, I bet we see lots more hike-a-bike suited shoes next year.  Or maybe fewer bike racers... Hmmm, that seems unlikely.

What a gorgeous day to be out riding in the San Juans!  Here is a view of Lizard Head and The Wilsons that the last few guys on course enjoyed this morning.  (Photo Credit: Jefe Branham, 2007)

This exact subject has been the source of many emails by a few of my friends that are attempting the CTR next year.  Too funny.

I don't care what kind of shoes you wear, just be prepared for LOTS AND LOTS of walking. Not like 5 minute push a bike, like an hour or more at a time. And having a plan for wet feet is probably good too Smiley

What got to me was the DOWNHILL walking after Sargents Mesa.  Hard on the body and mind.

Seems like no matter how loud or how many times you say it, riders just must experience Sargents Mesa first hand to really get it.

Maybe we (as in we bikers) could get a crew together and work with the CTF to make some of that trail much more enjoyable.  Of all the sections on the entire Colorado Trail, that is really the only one that I could die happy without doing again.  At least with a bike...

CTR10 - Dylan Taylor called in from Durango with some final thoughts and wants to know from those who raced how many miles you think you walked.

When we rode the CT unsupported last year, this pretty much captured our feelings about Sargent's Mesa:

Sargents is a soul-sucking section that regardless of having ridden it before, caught me completely off guard.

But I guess it makes you appreciate all the sections where you can actually pedal...or maybe not.

It was a good time out there, despite the rain, even if my parents who were watching closely don't believe me.  Wink

Love the mugshots! Thanks for sharing! (Did I miss the pic or is Emily Sportsman missing from the lineup?)

I just cannot say enough good things about the coverage and accessibility you've provided on this forum! Thank you so much for such an amazing organizational service!
I was dreading the days my son would be out there without any way to check on him/his progress... (accidents do happen y'know) and this whole network of people and information and updates really helped put my mind at ease. Plus, as a major bonus, made it SUPER FUN to follow all the racers!!

And even though you don't know me, I feel as though I know some of you! Smiley

 thumbsup

I am glad you changed your mind about ringing up Snickers bars all week!  You go Girl!!
Wow! I cried through that whole thing! Thank you for sharing such a personal experience.

Beautiful. Terrible. Amazing. Brutal. Inspiring. Smiley

Just got word from Bob Butrico.  He's in Silverton and glad to be there. Eating as much as he can, resting, maybe laundry(Huh?) and crashing in a hostel for the night to dry out some gear.  Potential issue with his front derl, only has granny (whew...).  He'll be back at it again tmro, projected finish on Thurs.

Totally beat from the past two days, but still in good spirits!  His take was a lot of carry-a-bike to go nicely along with the hike-a-bike.

congrats to all the finishers, and the ones who will finish soon. huge to be able to even try a ride like this, let alone finish it!! grrrreat work!

Mark Caminiti called in from Durango where he's placing his order at Denny's. Seriously, you hear him place his order!  icon_biggrin He finished at 5:28pm which should work to 8:10:43.

Looks like Nathan Gallion came in just a couple hours behind him and Jason Johnson and Bill Guerrera just before him.

Steve Lacey called in from Durango finishing at 7:05:47, admittedly with a route deviation  but still an accomplishment.

Congrats Steve and Toby!  I would love to hook up and buy you guys a beer and hear about your adventures!  I know it's probably a little premature to suggest next year but it would be cool to get a FC CTR group together and start preparing for 2011!  Great JOB!
