Sorry, I had updated James' status, but forgot to post this email I received from him. He's probably landed back in the U.K. by now...
I rode with James a bit early in the ride. Turned out we have a mutual friend, Rob Lee http://roblee7ds.blogspot.com/ . Small world! I recall reading of James killing a bunch of UK events while on a team with Rob a few years back. No surprise there cause James looked damn strong out there. Pretty incredible that CTR draws such talent from overseas. |

Yep! And after Jeff Kerkove's picture of his "modified" touring shoes, I bet we see lots more hike-a-bike suited shoes next year. Or maybe fewer bike racers... Hmmm, that seems unlikely. |

I don't care what kind of shoes you wear, just be prepared for LOTS AND LOTS of walking. Not like 5 minute push a bike, like an hour or more at a time. And having a plan for wet feet is probably good too  |

Seems like no matter how loud or how many times you say it, riders just must experience Sargents Mesa first hand to really get it. Maybe we (as in we bikers) could get a crew together and work with the CTF to make some of that trail much more enjoyable. Of all the sections on the entire Colorado Trail, that is really the only one that I could die happy without doing again. At least with a bike... |

Sargents is a soul-sucking section that regardless of having ridden it before, caught me completely off guard. But I guess it makes you appreciate all the sections where you can actually pedal...or maybe not. Wrote up my take on 6.5 days of fun at http://gooneyriders.typepad.com/. It was a good time out there, despite the rain, even if my parents who were watching closely don't believe me.  |

Love the mugshots! Thanks for sharing! (Did I miss the pic or is Emily Sportsman missing from the lineup?) I just cannot say enough good things about the coverage and accessibility you've provided on this forum! Thank you so much for such an amazing organizational service! I was dreading the days my son would be out there without any way to check on him/his progress... (accidents do happen y'know) and this whole network of people and information and updates really helped put my mind at ease. Plus, as a major bonus, made it SUPER FUN to follow all the racers!! Just got word from Bob Butrico. He's in Silverton and glad to be there. Eating as much as he can, resting, maybe laundry(  ) and crashing in a hostel for the night to dry out some gear. Potential issue with his front derl, only has granny (whew...). He'll be back at it again tmro, projected finish on Thurs. Totally beat from the past two days, but still in good spirits! His take was a lot of carry-a-bike to go nicely along with the hike-a-bike. congrats to all the finishers, and the ones who will finish soon. huge to be able to even try a ride like this, let alone finish it!! grrrreat work! -b |

Mark Caminiti called in from Durango where he's placing his order at Denny's. Seriously, you hear him place his order! He finished at 5:28pm which should work to 8:10:43. Looks like Nathan Gallion came in just a couple hours behind him and Jason Johnson and Bill Guerrera just before him. |
