But it is never really over for the finishers/racers.
Every night since the CTR, I keep dreaming that I haven't finished yet, and I keep trying to find the "real" end of the trail. It's making me a little crazy. Maybe I shouldn't have been so hasty deciding to ride again in 2011. Yesterday I looked at new bikes--maybe it's time to retire my '94 Cannondale Delta V before next year's effort?

It's haunted me for 2 years now.  I was a DNF'er in the 2nd race.  Haven't been able to make it work the past two summers.  I won't be toeing the line with the others next summer, but I will be attempting a thru ride of the CT next summer for sure.

Hello All:

I made it back from Durango after a 12 hour Greyhound bus ride, light rail, and RTD bus ride to my condo in Littleton.  Now, I have to pack up my stuff and report to my new job in Chantilly, VA.  (Yikes!) by next week.  I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this memorable event this year.

I promise to draft a full report and post when I have an opportunity.  I would like to thank friends and family for their support in this adventure.  Without them, none of this would have been possible.  Without a doubt, their were times I thought of pulling the plug (ie.  camping with sleeping bag/ small tarp at 12K below Carson's Saddle and getting hammered by 5 seperate storm cells in one night, braving a close call with hypothermia).  It was times like this that I thought of the reasons I chose to participate.  I often thought of my father an Army Special Forces Officer and the sh!t he had to endure throughout his career.  I also thought of Col. Nick Rowe another Green Baret captured in Vietnam and held as a POW for several years.  He used to say while captive, "You can beat me down today, but tomorrow we start over: tomorrow is a new game...."  That was his key.  I figure these two heroes knew how to persevere and so could I.  I too could push myself physically and metally and draw strength from their experiences; farther than I thought possible to achieve my dream of riding the entire Colorodo Trail.

Congrats to all finishers who chose to stand tall and face their dream, despite weather complications and other setbacks.  Also, big kudos to the Colorado Trail Foundation and all the volunteers that have contributed many, many hours of time to ensure the integrity of this path through the Colorado Mountains.   icon_biggrin

Anyone missing a pair of Smith sunglasses with amber lenses? Found them coming down Georgia Pass. Sorry, forgot to post earlier.

Not missing any sunglasses but if anyone has found a set of tent poles and a Garmin GPS (with black duct tape holding it together) then let me know. I lost the GPS at the beginning of the climb out of Breckenridge going towards Copper.  I think I lost the tent poles past Kenosha Pass (just past the first downhill section before crossing the big meadows before the gradual incline towards Georgia pass).  I know it's a shot in the dark to try and get these back but thought I would try.

For the lost and found department I have a Nike glove from the 07 event. Nice write ups everybody.  Ryan, thats a worst case scenario, weather did a number on all of you, congrats {not the right word}, to all that give it a go. Unfinished business is a good business to be in.

We all have unfinished business because the Lost Creek includes 7 miles of single track and is a unique area. Ha ha.

I lost a pair of Smith sunglasses on the second day going over Georgia!  I also lost a Sony mp3 player and a hammer gel flask, but I don't care about them as much as the glasses.  I finished the CTR without out them, but stopped five times to pick bugs out of my eyes.

Let me know the best way I can retrieve them.  THANK YOU!!!

Hey all,

I finally got caught up on the chores around the house from time spent on the trail and finally had time to get back to the site.

Ryan, way to go dude!  It was good to see you finish.

Aaron W, That was my arm warmer you found in the cabin.  I hope to pick it up when I get back to Salida to ride with you and John....or at least to do some back country boarding this winter.

Ramstrong1, Hope to get out and ride with you soon or anyone in Fort Collins wanting to ride (after the feeling comes back to my fingers).  970-443-0728

Stefan, thanks for the site and pulling this together.....I think.

Overall, I had quite the experience on the CTR and (don't tell my wife) can't wait to try it again.  I really enjoyed the company of those I rode with on the trail and applaud all who were at the Indian Creek trail head including non-riders.  I, for one, would never have been able to even consider something like this if not for the support from my wife and family and their sacrifices throughout the year.

Steve,
Glad you made it to the end. I felt bad that I couldn't find that damn detour sheet for you at HWY 114, never did come up with it, likely threw it away with a bunch of other stuff when I thought I was done in Salida that morn. Great job sticking it out.

Does everybody remember crossing the mud/rock flow just after Mt Princeton?  The road was closed and we had to walk through the debris.  I still have that white mud on my shoes.

Here's a link with video of landslides happening in that spot.  The video cameras are triggered by rain.

Steve, you should come claim your armwarmer in person if at all possible!  However, I'm happy to mail it if you need it sooner.  Let me know if you are in the area...719 207 3044 aaronw1322g at yahoo dot com

I really enjoyed my adventure on the CT and I apologize for hitch-hiking and acting like I didn't BangHead. Mad props to all who finished legit, especially Ryan. I support all of you and hope to see many of you on the trail next year!   headbang

Nathan,

No worries about the flask.  Not really worth the postage.  Consider it a gift.  icon_biggrin

Thanks for posting that Scott. I was thinking the other night how it would really give perspective if the storm fronts could be superimposed on top of the replay. Would that be over the top difficult to do?
