Uh-Oh. Looks like Jordan Carr missed the turn off Halfmoon Road. He'll dead-end soon enough and hopefully backtrack....

Man, it seems like an all night drizzle might be settling in here in the lower Arkansas valley.  I skipped out to ride around 7, thinking I found a break in the rain, but the drizzles just kept rolling in.  This is the wettest day I've seen all summer here.

Dan seems to have found some motivation to ride faster after seeing Jesse, but they are both looking at a very wet start to the night right now.  This thing just got Epic, with a capital E.

I pulled the plug on my CTR. The altitude monster got the flat lander. Ponding headache and couldn't eat. I usually acclimate pretty good, but not this time.  Already planning.........

Ethan Passant called in from Buena Vista. Jordan Carr called in from Leadville. Heather Ireland called in to say “Post GO KURTIE GO! GO KURTIE GO!” here on MTBCast. Why just post it when she can say it!  thumbsup Steve Lacey called in to say he’s out. The call garbles about the time he says he has some issue with his lungs. Forest Baker called in from Copper. And Eszter Horanyi called in from Buena Vista.

Good to hear Ethan is moving up in the pack. Kevin Thomas is entering his home territory, and he ain't no rookie.   Been raining for hours here in Salida and it isn't slowing down.  Its better to have soggy shoes than a wet sleeping bag keep em rolling.  Good luck. Night night.

Hey Scott,
The radar looks as if Salida and the Monarch Crest are getting hammered! Is the general pattern moving east to west  or west to east? If it's the former, I agree they are going to get soaked tonight. That's quite the drencher.
Eszter is crushing it! And Cat is only three hours behind. She really is stepping it up from last year! Silly me, I always thought cats didn't like to get wet  Wink
Awesome job every one headbang

Ride strong eTurk and avoid the lightning on the sections 22 and 23. Enjoy your Durango to Denver 2011 CTR . Extra posts of eTurk pictures. http://www.dogboydan.com/dogboydan/images/CTR_2011/CTR_2011.htm

My weather predictions
The rain will subside next week Aug 8-12 2011, full moon Aug 8 2011
Full moon Monday Aug, 1 2012 - will be a dry and excellent weather year (for Aug 1 start date) as it was in 2009 for the CTR.

I noticed that "CTR", as in the Colorado Trail Race, has moved up in the Google search rank this year...Surely we can all get CTR the race to replace a pdf for the number one spot.

Riders in the Arkansas Valley might have just enough time to dry out before more scattered T-storms probably arrive this afternoon.

Seeing the riders track through my new home turf and having some inkling what they must be dealing is flaring up some CTRitis in this old boy.

I don't really even know Kevin Thomas, currently in second.  But I witnessed him pass a geared rider up the notorious Poncha Springs section of last years Vapor Trail Race on a single speed to regain first place.  I don't think I've ever seen a more grizzled--yet somehow smiling--face.  Like I said, I don't really know the guy. But in that instant, I learned enough to expect a nice little battle to the CTR finish.

Watching the CTR unfold beyond the Arkansas Valley is going to be a real treat.

The rainy night dealt some damage out there!

Jesse picked up not one, but two tent icons on his way up Fooses creek.  By my read of the radar it was better to be further north than south.  Kevin Thomas was able to keep rolling and has made up some serious ground.  I also noted that Jesse is now 3 hours behind Owen's record split (at Monarch Crest Trail), whereas his previous splits were 3 hours ahead.

Shout out to my man Garrett Peltonen who seems to have found his stride and is now moving into the top five.  Garrett is a pro roadie who was going to take on the divide this year until being crashed out of a crit just one week before TD started.  It's good to see him in CTR.

Zach Guy seems to be bailing - to BV for bike parts, or bailing completely?

The race flow shows some long horizontal lines for all the leaders confirming it wasn't a good night to make miles.  The sun is out this morning, and we'll just have to wait and see what t-storms develop, and where.

!!! Kevin just logged a point at the top of the crest trail and appears to be right on Jesse's heels.  That was an incredibly fast climb of Fooses...

This is Kevin's wife and we got to see him on Fooses Ck road around 6am. He got some sleep during the rain and looked good (as far as good can look when you are 48 hrs into something wacky like this) plus he's in his stomping grounds... Thanks for all the great support and the tracker --

Looks like Jesse got caught or is about to.  Does anyone know where Ethan Passant is in all of this?

Everyone that makes it through this race is a badass!
Looks like Jesse slept a good amount last night, it will be interesting to see how much he can pick it up through the day.
