Stefan is actually at Gold Hill right now (just talked to him) and is going to head up to the N. Fork Swan to post a sign for CTR racers to take the detour. Zach Guy successfully followed the detour signs to rejoin before HWY9, so it looks good.
I think Dave is right about some people thinking about records and asterisks.

Zach Allen called in to say he and Marco Capote are in Bailey. East-bounder Edward Turkaly called in from Silverton. And Ethan Passant called in just after crossing Hwy 9 below Frisco. You can get the audio here, via RSS, or on iTunes!

OK. So this kid is only 17? That's some serious ambition for a kid his age. He just became my new hero just by starting this thing. I don't know him and never heard of him but GO DYLAN GO!!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, his 18th birthday is August 7th. He was so pumped this morning to start. He's been planning this all summer. Mom & Dad think he is a bit crazy but he's totally into it!

Jesse is lighting it up! It's hard for me to imagine already being over the 10 mile range and starting into the Copper climb. Several others look like they'll make it over tonight too, including possibly our women's leader, Eszter. Super impressive.
Looks like we had quite a split between people taking the detour and sticking with the trail. And some that detoured rejoined at Horse Gulch (?) and others stayed on the road to HWY9. It's a significant difference and definitely mixed up the placement, but I think it'll all work out in the end.
A bigger mixup will occur tonight as some push into the night and others catch Z's. I'm surprised to see quite a few blue dots over in Frisco for the night. Hope the rest pays off for them.
This is such an amazing race.

I hope they get back on at the Dredge trail head {where Tiger Road turn to dirt}. Stephan probably has this figured out already? Holy cow they have cut a lot of trees all along the CT. The sign at on top of West Ridge says expect delays. The closure signs can be ignored at night, during working hours they might be enforced.

He said there are detour signs telling people to rejoin there (I think), so that you still ride the last switchbacks down to HWY9. But it appears some people aren't getting that message. Too bad they chose to today to start the closure. Bad timing.

It would be easy to miss that trailhead parking lot hauling down Tiger Road, the key is it is where the pavement begins/ends. It would be hard to just head up that way unless you knew, there may not be CT signs at that TH. Should be easy to rejoin the CT if you simply knew to go that way.

I did a locals loop and climbed west ridge from Keystone.I disregarded a closed sign in keystone, being after hours, and found this sign at the top. I would say the CT is officially closed from N. fork to Hwy 9. so no necessity to get to the Dredge TH. Rejoin the CT at Hwy 9 is my official unofficial unofficial advice.

Yeah, I don't speak for Stefan or the race, but in reference to Sonya's question, I can't see anyone being DQ'd for joining at HWY9 rather than the Dredge TH. It seems pretty clear that the directions are not clear, and signs indicate operations all the way to the HWY.
Thanks Dan.

Those of you needing the bluedot fix on mobile/touch devices - http://bluedot.mobi/ctr.php is up and live. Its got a few kinks I'll need to iron out tomorrow but I wanted to get this up for a few riders that expressed interest. Head to http://bluedot.mobi for the details or directly to the above link to load it up.
