Oh yeah, it looks like he's smoothly moving up through the pack now. He's been taking 8-9 hour breaks but has still moved from the 40s, 30s, 20s into the high 10s in terms of position. He injured himself a few weeks before the event, so is probably keeping it easy the first few days to see how his legs will respond... Hopefully there is enough in the tank for a few shorter breaks as he gets closer to the finish.
Go Shaggy Go!

Hi; Does anyone know what has happened to Jesse Jakomait. According to the Tracker site, he has not moved for over 12 hours. I am really worried about his condition.
You are not alone - I'm also concerned. However, he is still in a spot that is easy to bail from if necessary, it's pretty much all downhill to Salida. His SPOT just turned on, and it does have a 911 button on it. So, I think it's safe to say he is managing a difficult situation and not in over his head. Wild speculation: I'm guessing there were some bad products in Bailey and some riders (Jeff, Jesse, and perhaps others) contracted food poisoning. Jesse may have recognized it as such and decided to wait it out. An extraordinarily bold move in the middle of the longest no-supply section of the route, but time will tell. A heartbreaking turn of events for him as he looked on a solid path to a new record. If he finishes, his accomplishment may be even greater than a record ride.

Good news/bad news for Jesse fans: he's dropping down Silver Creek.
Bad news first - this means he is leaving the race.
Good news - if he was really completely sick he would backtrack and descend Marshal pass. The route he has chosen into Poncha/Salida is an awesome ride, probably the most popular day ride in the region. It's not all down though with some short steep ups on the Rainbow trail.
In retrospect, he was more than likely done yesterday, and the wait at the bathrooms was more about deciding on how he wanted to lose all that elevation he'd worked so hard to gain. Nice to see he had the patience to recover overnight and then take the fun way down.
Helluva ride Jesse!

A post on Facebook said that Jesse's "bike broke down". It's not clear if that person has talked to Jesse yet but I think not. ETurk is enjoying a spectacular morning at 13,200 feet and has a huge serving of hard earned descent coming his way for brunch. It won't be long before he runs into Kevin! The "golden spike" for CTR is really slanted SW this year ![Wink](http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/wink.gif)

Hi folks, introducing my noob self. I keep poking in to see what is going on the the bike packing world and following the races, so figured I'd say hi. Good stuff. Thanks
Curious... I've noticed the CTR follows the official Colorado Trail Foundation route for cyclists except for the Lost Creek Wilderness detour. I've scoured the forums to learn why, but have had no luck. Could someone enlighten me as to why? Hoping it is not something real obvious, but hey I'm a good here.
Thanks!

Overnight and this morning: Clark Davidson called in from Leadville. Drew Holbrook called in to say he’s out! Jesse Jakomait called in to say he’s out! And Noah Dimmit called in to say he’s out! You can get the audio here, via RSS, or on iTunes!

This is Mrs. Jakomait, just wanted to let everyone know that spoke to my husband today, he is in Salida and he is safe and sound. He told me he had major digestive issues and could not eat or drink, coul barely move. Jesse is safe and sound, that is most important.

I think the CTR stopped using the Lost Creek Wilderness detour due to mileage - 80 mile detour on Lost creek detour as opposed to approx. 20 by going into Bailey and using 285 to Kenosha.

Thanks RikPerry, I realize no bikes in Wilderness Areas... would be some real nice trail to ride.
Woodland, thanks for the input. That's what I was asking about. The Lost Creek / Tarryall Reservoir detour is certainly longer, more remote, and less pavement. Still wondering why... after all it is a mtb ultra-race on dirt.

So sorry about the GI issues, Jesse. You were absolutely killing it until then! Thanks for the show, it was a joy to watch. I hope you heal up fast and give 'er another go.
Take care, Owen

The route saw big changes when the Tarryall detour was dropped in favor of 285. Segment 7 was added (instead of the bike path), and segments 22/23 also got the nod instead of the Cinnamon detour. After the first year up 285 and multiple traffic scares, the race start was moved to a Monday in hopes of lighter traffic.
All in all, Stefan has done an amazing job to optimize the CT as a MTB race route.

I wonder if the people that are getting GI issues are rolling the dice and just drinking unfiltered water or a result of incomplete water filtration/treatment? ...GI issues... Owen

My first water refill was at a church on the fire road after getting into Bailey. I ate at the Cutthroat Cafe in Bailey and had a double burger. After leaving the church I drank 6 bottles by the time I got to the top of Kenosha.
