GPX Track

And a small gap just south of Butte at nine mile. I guess it tells me not to freak out if the GPX track has small gaps. (It may have to do with point simplication)

If you've somehow got a gap then you've done something to the provided track if that's what you're using. A single track can't have a gap in it, then it's two separate tracks Smiley

Well, The Vista HCx requires a point reduction and split into 20 tracks.

Yep, there will be a gap between each of the 20 tracks for the Vista HCx.  Just fill in the blank (in your head) with a straight line from the last point to the next.  It only splits straight lines, so there shouldn't be any curves or anything interesting between the splits.

The gap between the splits has NEVER been a issue out on the trail.  Sometimes you don’t even realize you rode thru one.

Split Tip:
Normally I just let the TopoFusion software ‘split’ my tracks.  But for the TDR I selected my own split points.  The reason was so when I printed the associated profiles for each section the start/stop locations were where I wanted them vs where the software would have placed them.

IE if you have a 20 day (or less) race plan you can make a track/profile for each of your planned days.

Of course you could still make daily profiles, as many as you want, independent of the 20 track/split file. Just use the original unsplit file over and over till you have has many daily profiles as wanted.

Of course it goes without saying--your actual day/ride/miles will soon drift from your 'planned' day

Why do they say the GDMBR route is 2711 miles and the TD route is something like 2698 miles?

Because TD allows two long paved alternates in New Mexico.

What happened to the traditional 2745 miles as stated elsewhere?

BTW, I recorded 2689 this year with the various detours. I did ride the entire 2011 official route.

It snowed a tiny amount this past winter.
