Reminds me of the old days having stuff sent to me at 'General Delivery' - when I lived in my truck in Jackson Hole  glasses2 Ah the glory days...

Just slashed my second Nano this year (and 3rd within 12 months), so different tires will go on this week for CT. I've never been a tire slasher, but 3 Nano sidewalls in a year is too much. Nanos served me well on bikepacking trips, including TD, over the years and they are the only tire that I always could install tubeless without compressor on the first try. But that is getting too unreliable.

What's your favorite choice for CTR?

I'll be going the opposite direction and start a few days later in Durango (probably August 4) rather than adding to the congestion, so I'll see you on the trail next month.

What's your favorite choice for CTR?
Continental X-King on the rear, and Mountain King II on the front. ProTection versions of both. Perhaps not the lightest tires, but the ProTection sidewalls seem very tough. The idea of having to bail for a trashed tire is unappealing.

If I knew that it was going to be dry, I'd just go with X-Kings on both wheels. But the Mountain King on the front sure is nice when it gets soggy.

Two yellow dots are taking the CTF recommended Tarryall Detour. Wonder if they know that is not the race route?

I assume they must, but if they know that then why are they on the race tracker as ITT'rs?

My good friend and I are starting our CTR ITT on Saturday, July 28 at 6:00 a.m. We land at Denver International Airport (DIA) around 9:00 p.m. We're working on finding a way from the airport to the Waterton Canyon TH that evening (possibly camping in the parking lot or Chatfield State Park). The only transportation option that we can think of is to take public transit as far as we can and then bike the remaining distance. We figured taking a cab would cost us way too much since it's a 50 mile drive from DIA. Any suggestions?
I'll be leaving the same time.  Maybe I'll see you out there.

You can literally ride out of the airport and to the trailhead, if you wanted to - not sure if I'd that first part  at night, but I've certainly have ridden from the airport to my house after a tour.

You could also grab the Sky Ride:

http://www.rtd-denver.com/skyRide_SubHome.shtml
http://www3.rtd-denver.com//schedules/getSchedule.action?routeType=0&routeId=XAT

You can then take that all the way to the Lightrail stop (or again ride your bike - roads/traffic should be cool by then)  South to the E-470 stop - there's again a bike path that'll take you most of the way there, without needing to ride on the roads.

From there, there's another bike path that would take you W, that follows parallel to E-470. Get off on Wadsworth and hang a right once you see the sign for Waterton Canyon. Ride a few miles on the gravel road to the start of the CT.

I can whip all these up in a Google Map or something, if you want to do some dirt baggin'

Thanks Joe! MTBCast is a great way to keep a lot of people informed, without having to make a bunch of phone calls, etc. Plus, it eliminates the possibility of having someone tell me things that I don't want to hear (location of other racers, etc.)

I don't mind the rain so much. Just the lightening that seems to always accompany it in Colorado!

This has nothing to do with planning so Mods...feel free to start a new CTR discussion thread and move this over there. Was wondering if anyone knows what's going on with Christophe Noel and his ITT? He's been in Breck for a while now. Wondering if there is a problem? I'm thinking he didn't turn on his SPOT.
My ITT was a train wreck. I stayed with my sister and her two young kids before my start. Turns out the were super sick for the days following, as was I. I spent day one feeling really weak. In between barf sessions I had time to suffer in the 90 degree temps across the burn scar off the S. Platte. I made it to the bottom of Georgia pass by about 8pm and tried to sleep it off. The trip over to Breckenridge was miserable and hotter than poo. I've been sick with a fever for a couple days.

Boys and girls...beware of the heat. Man, was it hot even without a fever. Next year.

I am bailing on the CTR this year.  I came down with walking pneumonia sometime least week, I feel really fatigued but not sick.  I don't want to risk it, plus my IT band has been bothering me and I imagine that it could flare up which solidified my decision.  It will always be there.  You guys and girls have fun out there and don't get hit by lightning!

Being pretty busy the last two weeks, I dropped the ball on renting a SPOT and as of this morning they're all out. Anyone in the Ft. Collins (where I'm from) or Denver area have an extra or not racing this year and it's set up to go. Send me a message and we'll talk price and details.

I sent an e-mail to the Dillon Ranger District (White River National Forest) to see if there were going to be any planned closures, re-routes, detours etc. on the Colorado Trail this year. Here's the response: "I’m not aware of any closures or detours along the Colorado Trail through the Dillon Ranger District during that time." Yeah!

Bill Manning, head of the Colorado Trail Foundation, also hasn't heard of any issues.

With all of the moisture that we've been receiving lately, fire danger looks somewhat lower too. A month ago, when everything was burning, I was worried that fires might close sections of the trail. Now it looks like it might be pretty wet--which is better than burning!
