Before it even started, I have to take my name off the list for this years CTR.

First the good news:  My wife accepted a job with REI in Seattle, so away we go.  Gotta find a new house and schools for the kids.  This all needs to be done before Aug 6.  Yikes!!!

Now the bad news, No way I can race with all of this going through my mind and then try to get to Seattle.  NO WAY.

I'll still be there Monday morning since I still have a few days to ride, just not racing.  Good luck to everyone.  If you see me stop and say Hi.  I'll be the one on the Mukluk.

Good luck everybody and I probably still see most of you on the trail. Not the superfast crowd because my frame cracked and needed to be replaced, so I won't get going until probably Friday evening from Durango.

Youre a brave man to be planning on riding the 285 detour on a busy weekend. I might see you on the trail-- Ill be starting sometime between Saturday and Monday. If I hit 285 on the weekend and it's too scary I might just say screw it and hitch my way to Kenosha; Im not flying all the way out to CO to ride on the highway anyway. Ill be on a white Knolly Endorphin with a Lefty.

Trackeaders reports me as being in 4th place. Awesome, I'm shredding this year!

Alas, I think that my standing will be reduced to its proper place at about 6:01 tomorrow morning. But until then, I'm enjoying my nearly-podium-quality status. Wink

No, no plans to ride 285 during peak traffic. Not brave, just aggravating and unsafe. I'm starting from the other side (Durango), so no traffic that weekend. I see when I get to 285, but will try to time it outside traffic hours (very early morning or night and also before the following weekend). Now have a brand new shiny red Salsa Mamasita frame.

Gotcha. I misunderstood. Thought you were leaving Durango to drive to Denver that day. Riding the other direction sounds killer too

Ran into Jason myself at the trail head! Caught me napping on the bench. Saw a few other racers making their way up Waterton Canyon.

He's got a nice, lightweight setup!

Sooo...  First hiccup.  Just got to the hotel room in south Denver and fired up the Garmin Edge 800...  All my courses have been deleted apparently...  Truly I just need Toby's gpx file, as the topo map I have loaded doesn't show the CT...  Does anyone have any ideas/friends in the area? or a laptop with the Garmin software loaded that I could "rent"?!  I've called a few bike shops looking for help and haven't gotten any luck...
Thought about the library but I don't think I'll be able to download the needed program or file.

Shoot.  The 800 can be a little finicky.  If you can get up to Leadville I'd be happy to help you w/ my computer.  Do some gas station recon at the same time?  Wink  I bet someone in the front range will come through, or could bring a laptop to the start maybe?  Good luck.

If he normally hangs out just past hwy 114,he wasn't there when I scouted it back in late June. Just some cheap styrofoam coolers with cheap Safeway brand sodas.

Unreal!  Problem solved!  Steve came through huge!  Drove all the way across town just to plug me in and reload the gpx!  Wouldn't even accept cash to cover gas!  Can't tell you how thankful I am!  At this point all I can promise is that I'll pay it forward!  Colorado you've made a fan out of me!!!

Sorry I didn't thank you for doing this again, Joe!  I will be handing out the mtbcast # at the start for all who want to use it.  Call-ins definitely add a lot for family and friends.
