It was a beautiful morning for the 60+? riders heading out from Waterton Canyon. I hope everyone has a fast, fun and safe ride out there. Now it's time for some serious blue-dot watching ( http://trackleaders.com/ctr)

Best of luck to all riders, but especially Todd Johnson (Go TJ!) and Dave Pickett-Heaps (Go DPH!). We'll be tracking you and sending warm, dry, comfort vibes!

Todd started around 4am this morning for an ITT, and Dave P-H told me at the start this morning that he would do an ITT tomorrow at 6am since he hadn't slept at all last night! Twas an anxious and mellow group of riders that started pedaling at 6am sharp this morning. I hope each and every one finds some adventure and leaves his/her comfort zone for a while to experience the CTR. Good luck all!!

Good to know! I have no doubt that DPH will catch up with the other riders even w/ a 24 hour delay start.
Also to add..Go Cat Morrison! You got this!

I'll jump in with the first photo of the thread. I dropped off Todd Johnson this am for a 4am start. You can see in the the pic he has an uber light kit as he is attempting to better his 5day:18hr finish time LY. It looks like he is in Buff Creek now, and on schedule to hit Bailey later this am as was his plan.

Ya, seems odd. Maybe something with the bike, hopefully no injury.

If Jill did suffer some sort of mechanical, do the rules allow for an ITT style restart?

Not to speak for Stefan, but, yes. Try as many times as you want! Hope to get a note from her requesting yellow dot status and indicating a restart. It's always a bit of a rush to see all the dots making their way west from Waterton Canyon. Good to see some familiar names as well as some new ones at the front.

For sure. Anyone can start an ITT at anytime. Get it sorted and hit it fresh tomorrow Jill!

It looks like, at least for now, everyone is staying dry. I got a bit of rain yesterday at Buffalo Creek at about this time.

We have some house-shaking rumbling going on in Boulder right now, but from the radar, it looks like the storms are arched away from the riders. They must all have some great anti-electricity juju going on.

Yup, it's for real, but I did not see him at the start this morning, and his Spot does not indicate that he's on the trail yet. There's a link to his SPOT share page here: http://teamcrestedbutte.blogspot.com/2012/07/sully-goes-for-colorado-trail-race.htmlI've tried to clear up the confusion with a couple posts to his blog (above) that he's actually not running the CTR, he's running the *entire* CT - no detours. Since he is on foot, he will go through all the wildernesses. He is also fully supported with a crew. So, completely unrelated to the CTR, really. And a little frustrating that he keeps referencing the CTR and breaking the foot-travel record since there isn't one. Yet... Regardless, I hope he gets going soon and has an awesome time on the trail! The CT-by-foot record of 8d12h is, perhaps, more solid than Owen's 4d3h CTR record. But, as they say, "Records are made to be broken." Look forward to seeing how things transpire on the Colorado Trail this year.
