Looks like Max has figured out his SPOT tracker and is on the move again, headed up to Avalanche TH after a nap in BV!! Go Max!

However, I think Matt Schiff might be the darkhorse.
I'm all-in on Max Nuttelman as the darkhorse. :-) I did a fair bit of adventure racing with him and Charlie in 2008 and have been trying to get them to crack the CTR nut for 3 years now. Edit: Looks like he got my (and his SO's) text in Buena Vista and figured out how to reset his Spot!! Wahooo!!

Dave Pickett-Heaps had a fall (didn't get details) but is doing fine physically and in a great state of mind.

Oh man - This is shaping up to be a interesting race! The 4 leaders are going to turn the screws on each other I'm sure, but will they push it too hard and crack?
There is also a solid chase group forming with Kerkove, Matt Schiff, and Dan Miller-Lionberg (my homie) crushing it on a SS.
It's Dan's first foray into Ultras and he is going moderately light and pack less, so we'll see how that treats him with all the upcoming hike-a-bike.
Bummed to be missing out on all the fun this year, so I'll just have to be satiated with the armchair racing!

Stefan, you might be right. He looks like he is killing it! In my opinion, getting through BV and back up on to the CT before nightfall on the 2nd day is huge if you want to be in the sub 5 day range, and there are several dudes doing it right now. There are also a few who, if they have good weather, will likely make it up there tonight before they rest, which goes a long way towards sub 5 as well.

Wow, D. Pickett-Heaps is a name I have not heard associated with an MTB race in a long time. He's a former Montezuma's Revenge winner. Rooting for the two CM's; Chris and Cat!! Ed

I'm out and back home in Salida. My legs just aren't recovered yet. Probably more importantly my mind just wasn't ready. I guess that's what I get for having too much fun biking this summer. It would be ok with me never to bivy in a rainstorm again. I think it's time I get a tent for bikepacking. I rode over hoosier pass to fairplay this morning, hitched a ride to johnson village, and then biked home... Now it's up to Dominic to represent for Salida. Keep em rollin Dominic!

Calls: Nick Patzer called in from Copper. He’s had some challenges keeping proteins down but otherwise okay. Toby Gadd called in from Copper. He got his bike fixed, got some food, and is ready to head out! Barry Ritchey called in from Copper. He had a rough day yesterday but is doing better and wolfing down some food! Wendy Skean called in from Breckenridge. She’s getting dried out there. And Ben Oney called in to say he’s OUT! He recaps his ride and says he wasn’t comfortable with what he packed. *Hats off to Wendy for taking on the CTR at 68!

Good work Aaron, I bet coming off the Tour Divide it must be super tough. Sometime or another we'll catch up!

Nice work Max Nuttelman! Kicking ass and throwing down some solid competition for Ethan, Jefe and JJ! It only gets harder from here. Looking forward to watching how the coming days unfold...

Day two, tackling fooses creek in the dark, kinda late and in the rain.
what bad asses.
Fooses in the dark might actually be a good thing. It's a hike anyway and if it's dark they can't see that final wall....err...trail to the crest.

Can anyone give me a lift to the start on Friday morning? Im happy to pay cash if youre going that way already! Shoot me a message if you can help me out. Im staying in Boulder and dont want to add that many extra miles to my trip-- Im already a long enough shot to finish as is, I need all the help I can get!
If not, are there any shuttles in the area that would ride me with my fully assembled bike anywhere close to the start? Everything Ive found so far says my bike has to be boxed or they wont take me.
Thanks

I haven't seen Jesse move from near Angel of Shavano Camground in nearly an hour. It appears only Ethan is going up Fooses at night in the rain?

How much do you think EP and JJ have slept thus far? Looks like they may both be napping now. Insane pace
