Ouch!!
Looks like Wayne_Keith (ITT) spent 5-6 hours backtracking on Seg 22 on the high stuff. Probably trying to dodge the storms??

EDIT: THere he is, just a couple miles behind Jesse with chasers not far behind. The real test will be see where they are in about ohhhh 4 more hours.

Is the trackleaders "Leaderboard" working? I don't see any splits posted yet  icon_scratch.

HaHa! Thanks!  Glad I'm not racing since I didn't even notice the refresh button.  I'd be in Cortez instead of somewhere between Durango an Silverton.

Those guys are flying - Stony pass already? That had to be a damn tough day! Anyone know if they had clear weather? Wilk - when you going to try this thing? Maybe they will do it in a relay some day, that'd be awesome...

Everyone ahead of Forest Baker had clear weather and smooth sailing... Forest and everyone behind got nailed by a big storm on 'the ridge' (Indian Trail).  Reports were of inches of hail/slush accumulating (enough that people missed their snow bikes!), people abandoning their bikes to find cover, and one racer pointed out a tree that had been hit by lightning *today*.  A big chunk of bark was knocked off and blown 20 feet away, next to the trail.  Pretty crazy.  Some folks seemed very shaken up by it, others were taking it in stride.

Thanks - Indian Ridge is no place to be in a storm, was worried about everyone as it looked bad up there all afternoon.

Did everyone stay in the race? I would have bailed right then and there (of course, I'd of never started). Crazy people these CTR riders...

Wayne Keith is hanging at the trail angel site!  I went throughout there last week on my ITT. Didn't want to let the site be known until racers were on ther way. If I were Keith I would load up on the cokes and treats there. Next supply isn't for a while

I just watched many of the riders pass through Silverton. It was fun to see the race in action. Good luck everyone!

Everyone stayed in as far as I know.  Nobody mentioned anyone dropping, and there haven't been any reports of scratches yet!  Serious fortitude enduring that storm, if you ask me.  It looked like the ridge was getting nuked about midday, and just stayed parked there for most of the afternoon.

I'll have some photos we took from Bolam -> Salt Creek posted tomorrow.

Not surprised to see Jesse still way off the front.  Curious about Jerry Oliver's point on a wrong ridgeline.  Seems a little unlikely to be a GPS error, landing on a ridgetop like that, but it still could be.  Night 1 is going to be very interesting.

Stoked to see so many make the Silverton biz hours with time to spare.  This is getting good!

Fantastic Day One Racers- Spectated from on top of Blackhawk.... Everyone rest assured, no matter how hard we tried, no one would take our donughnuts or whiskey....must be day one? It appears that Jefe overtook JJ overnight but after seeing Jesse ride yesterday and watching his performance in this year's Dirty, I gotta just say how in awe I am of how fast he rides....like he's got a motor. Bummer to hear about the mid-pack in the storms on Indian. We watched the weater play out from on top of BHP all afternoon and felt very lucky to have a window of calm. Everyone looked really strong out there and 100 percent positive mental attitudes for all! Our last check-in was with Joey, Danny and Huh?? just after hotel. Safe travels CTRers! headbang

Planned on it all winter but my brother decided to get married back east last week. Couldn't swing the time off with work.  Plus my five year wedding anniversary is this weekend.  So jealous of all the guys.  Relay would be... logistically tough but awesome

Super jealous of everyone out there.  Full moon, clear skies and seg 22/23?  That's livin'.  Plus sunrise there... wow.

It looks like everyone that made Silverton last night and pushed on should have a good chance of making safer terrain before storms start to fire.  The peloton now leaving town may have to factor weather into their decisions, though at only 30%, this is the best weather we've seen recently in the San Juans.
