Jerry Oliver asked me to post a comment (I'm his wife).. He's still moving and still in the race (even though it looks like he's been camping since 1:30 this morning)! His spot tracker isn't working.. I talked to him at 4:30 this afternoon and he was just leaving Buena Vista...he thinks he's still holding onto 3rd place. Replaced the batteries in his spot so I hope it starts working. Go Jerry!

I got a call from Tim James. He was pretty sick coming across from Silverton and new he couldn't sustain the ride any further. He is safely at a friends place near Creede and we hope to get him a ride soon. Unfortunately he said he has to scratch this year.

Just spoke with Max Morris (6:10 pm 7/23). He lost a couple of hours getting off route to find some water. He has also worn holes in his shoes and is attempting to use some Gorilla tape to repair them. Such a difficult event! Needs to resupply but is still a good distance away from any stores. He mentioned the gigantic respect he has for any rider that can finish all 3 - AZ750/TD/CTR!

"I'm recovering from altitude sickness in Rico." (20 min ago)
Was starting to worry after not getting new reports from her SPOT. She's got to get some kind of award for perseverance. Glad to hear she's OK.

Just saw the Jesse Jefe pass a bit earlier. It's really going to be a dogfight now. Will Jesse sleep more than Jefe and ride faster?? I suspect so but it's got to be hard to bed down when you know you're right next to each other...

So, I guess the CO trail has recently been reopened from Stony Pass to Spring Crrek Pass? That section had been closed due to the West Fork complex fire. I'm currently camped in Frisco with the intention of riding the CO trail from Spring Creek Pass to Cataract Lake and then plan on descending down to the Rio Grande Resevoir via West Lost Trail Creek trail.

It's been great seeing this race unfold the past few days! Sitting in traffic yesterday I found myself really wishing I were pushing my bike up a mountain.
My thoughts go out to those 5 racers still on 23/22 (TG, DL, JG, BS, WR). They are in a similar place to where I was in my effort. May they enjoy the copious amounts of downhill after Slumgullion Pass!
I hope those 15 or so riders between 149 and Marshall Pass are having the time of their lives. That chunk of trail was fun (even sections 17/16, except for the climb from Tank 7 Creek), but not nearly as beautiful as the southern sections. Joey Ernst looks to have cleared that climb, along with around 11 other riders. Hopefully they can enjoy the Monarch Crest area in the wee hours before too much traffic comes through. Joey and Sandhya were super hospitable to my friends and I for our reverse ride, and for the large group this year, so I'd like to give a shout out there.
Mark Caminiti is on the La Garita detour, and his 55 mpd pace is very respectable. Wondering if he's going to ride late and get to section 17 for an early push tomorrow.
Great to see so many familiar names out there. Keep riding hard!

Poor Brian Vaughn is off trail -heading for some lakes way up high, damn GPS! And somebody was in Gunnison? Hope he lives there....

Eric cutlip appears to be heading down marchall pass road... hope everything is going ok and he gets back on track.
All is well, bailed off of Marshall Pass into Salida. Awesome two days of riding, unfortunately water filtration was unable to happen and 20 hours on one bottle roughed me up a little. Couldn't ask for a better way to spend a couple of days.

So many questions: Is Michelle planning to continue -that is one hard climb from Rico back up to Bolam Pass! Are people who appear to have stopped for hours, some up to 12 hours, stopped or is their spot dead? Are the people off course looking for water, lost, enjoying a scenic side trip? Are the leaders on track to finish by morning? This race is awesome-so glad I am NOT doing it...

I can confirm that one of the off-track riders, Seth Michael is out. Heard from his girlfriend this afternoon while she was on her way to pick him up. He ran out of food and lost some gear after a big crash in the first day/night. Bummed for him but, you have to believe that anyone who toes the line for this race becomes stronger, both physically and mentally whether they make it to the finish or not. All of these riders are impressive. Thanks for the show!

I've been watching the progress of my sister, uuber tough Rookie Jarmila Gorman. She's about 600 vertical feet below the trail tonight, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if she might be off the trail to find water, .... ? If you look at her history, she went down from the trail, then back up? Or down? Hard to tell... but it's the first time she's wandered off the red line. Anyone have some insight on what might be there? A stream to refill/purify some water? Thanks.... we're getting kinda stressed.

Hi...I've been up all the drainages in Pole Creek. I believe she is on a branch of the North Fork of Pole Creek. There was a trail in that area. Maybe she just dropped off the ridge to avoid weather. I could see clouds up that way (from Silverton) earlier today. She could have decided it made sense to camp as it was getting late. Most years these drainages have some water also.
