We just looked again and she's now way above the trail... So we're thinking SPOT glitch.

Overnight: Ben Gannon called in from near Hwy 50. And Jerry Oliver called in from Leadville! He had a creepy experience on Sargents!

After a long night Jesse is out front by less than a mile? Looks like Jesse got maybe 3 hours sleep, Jefe somewhat less...

They're closing in on being done with Ten Mile but oh man, Georgia from that side is going to be tough i think.

CTR'ers are amazing people! Even more respect now for you all!!! Ugh I'm out! My problem was that I could NEVER rest my mind starting Thursday night. Before the race I was thinking about different scenarios. During the race I was still thinking about how I was going to ride the next day, what I could have done better the day before, and just replaying everything in my head. I started the race after being awake for almost 48 hours. I didnt sleep one minute Sunday night, nor could I even get 10 minutes anywhere on the trail. I stopped in Silverton, got a bed thinking that would help, but I laid there for 6 hours wide awake. I started up Stony with Forest in hopes to find what was needed to get through S23/22 (what an amazing sense of ease Forest carries) and being with him got me over Stony. Once back on the CT, I told Forest to go as I was feeling like I could REALLY sleep. But, I fumbled through the night. At one point I remember moving by bivy cuz I thought I was too close to the cliff (I was on a flat grassy section...no cliff).  I also kept visioning this gremlin looking thing climbing over the cliff carrying a person by the shirt. WTF? I knew it wasnt there but I kept seeing it. I just waited for the sun to help me get out as I simply could not get any sleep again.  I rode back to Silverton, got a ride to Durango. Driving home now! Sad No question, doing this again! BTW, funny, I started to apologize to the driver who was taking me to Durango. When I woke up in Durango, he asked what I was going to apologize for. I said, I was going to apologize for probably falling asleep.WHY WHY WHY couldnt I sleep like that on the trail!!! Go racers!!!

Some good CTR legends coming out of the 2013 event. "Irish woman, dressed like she was Amish" classic...
or Eric Cutlip's 20-hour 1-bottle ordeal
or Michelle DuLieu's epic Indian Ridge adventure
EDIT: or Hubach's gremlin

last but not least the duel for first at the front - I still can't believe how fast those guys can go through this terrain, pretty incredible.

What happened to Ethan P. this year? If I know my CTR history this would be the first year he didn't toe the line.

Thomas wolf here.  I made my way to lake city last night and I'm calling it.  Found out my lack of breathing from the start was due to an awesome chest infection that showed itself Mon night in silverton.  Finished stony pAss segment but had to walk anything that was't downhill.  Throat and chest are trashed. Was a great experience and I'll be back next year!

Well, it's official from the Doc that Bronchitis was my undoing out there... Awesome job to everyone that has finished and to the folks still pushing on!

Nice effort Thomas - and yet another example of the fortitude and determination that pervades this race.

Gremlins and chest infections won't stop us from coming back  icon_biggrin

They'll be on Tarryall detour in a couple hours, no?

Jess pulling ahead on the climb...

Has anyone seen Matt Schiff? He's without a SPOT and Steamboat is wondering where he is!

I second this! it's killing me not to be able to obsessively watch the blue dot... Don't think he took his cell phone either. But knowing my brother, my guess is that he's out there with a little smirk (underneath the grimace) knowing that he's the Ghost Rider.

Looks like he pulled ahead slightly on the descent off the West Ridge, but probably they will be cozying up again in that rough, nasty rocky climb out of the Swan River

A couple of photos that Bob Butrico sent to me.

Damn, it's so hard to be grounded this year. I'm milking every bit of vicarious pleasure out of this that I can. Fortunately, there's lots to be had. Some great riding taking place out there--from the leaders, red lanterns, and everyone in between. Not many drops yet, which speaks to the collective strength and preparedness of this year's racers.

The hardest thing to watch has been people getting off-route. Every time I see a blue dot heading down the wrong path, I want to send psychic messages urging them to check their GPS or map.

it's really hard to focus at work knowing there is so much fun suffering happening out there..
can't wait till saturday to get to colorado and give my ITT a go... hoping the injured quad will hold up. All you colorado people are spoiled to have such great trails and scenery in your back yard.
Until saturday, I shall continue to live vicariously through all the blue dots moving ever so slowly across the screen at work.

it should be a requirement that the top guys should have satellite internet phones with 24/7 webcams for our entertainment.
