Here's my setup:

http://mowglimedia.net/journal/

Still tweaking to cut down weight.....I like Joey's idea of packing enough food to not worry about getting to Silverton by 8pm, but I just don't think I have enough room for 4 day's worth of food to make it to BV, that's a $&itload of calories!

Also - my frame was slightly damaged during my flight into Denver yesterday - somehow the rear shifter cable got ripped out of the cable stop (probably during TSA inspection, those bastards) and cracked the carbon cable stop.  Anyone have experience fixing carbon frames?  I'm thinking just getting some super strong epoxy and gluing it back on - any recommendations for epoxy type?  Kinda need to get this fixed TODAY.....

Any estimates on number of hours of HAB? I'm guessing not more than 20. I figure this figure would be pretty consistent for everyone. I'm still sort of torn between two different pairs of shoes. One pair I'm almost assured of no problems, used them last year. The other pair I haul ass (Scientifically proven to increase speed by 12%) but I'm not totally convinced I won't get a blister or hot spot.

Big bummer!  For now the most reliable way to fix that is to wrap electical tape around the whole frame tube and cable.  Long term you could repair it with a super strong appoxy like the 3M product called DP420 but finding it will be tough in a day.

I'm psyching myself out that half the time will be on my feet, ~ 100 miles of walking.

Yeah....I'm afraid using tape or zip ties won't provide enough support for the cable housing during shifting but we'll see

The problem is the cable on the far side of pic? Full length housing fix that?

Great write up! I hope you see your Pop out there too. I'm sure he'll be helping you push up Stony Pass.

Thanks, Adam.  I appreciate it.  Nice post on your part, too.  I look forward to meeting you Sunday morn!

Oh ya, thats a cable stop not a guide, sharp eye Matt.  Go full length housing and tape that to the frame.  My bike has guides that I dont even use cause full length housing is way better in grime.

Unforseen circumstances got me delayed and stuck in Pittsburgh for a few more days, so I might not be able to make it this year after all Sad

I start my next rotation at school on August 5th, was planning for a 7-10 day pace on the course and wanted some extra buffer days built in in case I got stuck in some town in the middle of nowhere where I couldn't easily find public transport back to Denver for the flight home. Debating if I should sack up, come anyway and just risk it. I'd have to fly in Monday morning and drive straight to Durango for an immediate start so probably won't see any of you on the trail, but I hope to still at least be out there with you all in spirit.

On the bright side, forecast is looking much better this week than last-- just in time!

Took a nice spin from Waterton to the Platte River Road and back, as sort of a final shakedown. Gonna be a nice fast finish for y'all (erm, once you get up that last hump!)
