Neil's sleepless night has set him up so he doesn't need to worry about crossing passes with thunderstorms today. He's clearing Searle this morning!

Neil is going wicked fast... too bad we don't have a Jefe/Jesse benchmark for this particular route southbound.  I'd be awfully curious...

I was just about to say the same thing. Loved seeing the JayP 'ghost' on the TD tracker. We do need the Jefe 'ghost' for the CTR.

Heard someone fly by my camp on top of the ridge above Breck on Section 6 around 10pm last night. Looking forward to seeing some racers today! Must have been Neil.

We've never done this exact route southbound before, though (Tarryall and Coney/Cateract) - just northbound last year.  So, no ability to have the ghost Jefe... next year we can have one, though, northbound again!

Ah, good point - forgot about that!

Poor Katie Anderson just had some serious route findings issues. She just did a lot more climbing than she needed to do. Hats off to her for getting back on track though...

Not sure what's up with Bart Spedden. He crashed yesterday but seemed fine when I talked to him at the 126 crossing.
I'm in Leadville. As expected Neil took the bypass. Not sure how long I'll hang around but will for a few.

Neil is blowing the field away!  Quite impressive! Would his win set a new record since it is the first time on this course in this direction? Could be, in two years (i.e. next time the course is westbound), it will be his "ghost" on trackleaders that everyone is chasing.

I am also impressed with Josiah Morgan.  I ran across him two years ago on the CTR and he ended up dropping out the first day due to difficulty in adjusting to the altitude (though he did end up making to Durango anyway).  Now, he is in the top 10 and shooting for 6 day finish!  Way to go!

I am surprised at smaller field.  Is interest going away or just an odd year in which many people had life get in the way of the CTR?  I admit I am one of those since I planned on riding this year but my wife delivered our third child (in the last 18 months) this past month, so we have our hands full with three little ones under the age of two.  Hoping to get back to it next year, though it will depend on how much time I can get away to train.  In any event, I am enjoying spot tracking.

Without the ghost times I can say Neil is hauling the mail!  When I was digging into split time goals for myself making Leadville by noon would be a hero effort.  Its only 11am and I'm sure he's stuffing his pie hole with anything he can grab over there!

CTR14: Barry Ritchey called in from Georgia Pass! He’s pushing for Ten Mile! Dominic Lauzier called in from Lost Park on his birthday! Dave Meissner called in from near Breck! He’s having Spot issues but is definitely in the race and doing good! And aron Boatman called in from near Breckenridge after descending Georgia Pass!

Does anyone know if there are any other "Triple Crown" riders besides Mark Caminiti? He sure has been fun to watch this year with the AZT and Tour Divide. What a tough dude!

What happened!  That sucks to bail after going so fast... or maybe that's WHY he bailed... would be the case with me.

Here's his post: "Sitting in Copper eating and reflecting on the fact that my body is letting me down this time. I rode here faster than 2008 despite not doing Ten Mile last time. Unfortunately my right Achilles is making me limp when I walk already and I'm not here to do anything less than race 100%. I'm proud of my effort and perhaps only a year to get ready was ambitious."

Oh bummer.  We all know this is, at least in part, a game of attrition...

Saw some fast guys out there today. Got water in Horseshoe Gulch and saw 6 or 7 guys go through right as the Breck Epic leaders started flying through. The mile up from the creek was dicey with my dad and I backpacking up along with a few CTR racers with Breck Epic racers coming down.

New bike this year, getting the itch.

Yep, Jessie, I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at the route before determining a month ago that I couldn't swing it this year either.  I figured getting over the 10 mile during the middle of the 1st night was going to be tough, and that if you managed that you would be in great position.  Neil is doing some damn strong work right now.

Bummer to hear about Chris. Didn't he have Achilles issues in one of his tour divide attempts?  Sounds like he may be of an age where gears are your friend. Smiley.

Perhaps next year, teammates Jefe and Neil will go head to head.
