True that!  I've been lucky to have few injuries, catastrophic and chronic alike.

Wow, for a guy who's got a 10/10 in pain, he's still moving right along. In fact, I bet that he's clearing that section more quickly than most day-riders!

I just hope that he's not wrecking his knee. He's of that age when some people push hard enough to develop lifetime injuries. Those of us who have them generally regret it as we age.

Seriously. I've struggled to get back to a respectable level of fitness for several years now due to the previous abuse I put my body through. That said, he's a man's man for sure.

Yeah, "never give up" sounds good, but sometimes giving up is a better option than permanent damage and a lifetime of pain.  No one who has witnessed Neil's titanic effort will have anything but the greatest respect for him, whether he finishes or not. I hope he knows that.

Seems like he would have dropped already if he was going to. I bet he's fighting his ass off to get to Kennebec and the mostly downhill miles to the finish as y'all mentioned.

Either way its a heroic effort.

Such a brutal race and it just takes its toll in so many ways. So fun and so beautiful too.

Really bummed to hear Neil's knee is giving out.  So much gravity to help him to the end but I can picture every small rise that is going to seem like getting up Miners Creek to him now.  Hang in there dude!

Do you suppose that stupid sign is still up there? I was planning on moving it this year, but then ended up not being able to race.

I think Bryan's Spot may be tracking as Dave Stewart. I know he was barely in front of me at Searle Pass & Mt. Elbert Trailhead. I don't remember meeting Dave out there or in the group with us that was heading out of Leadville.

Checking the splits... the Dave Stewart splits jive exactly with what I would expect to see for Bryan Klahn.

I apologize if I am wrong but it really looks like Bryan Klahn is tracking as Dave Stewart.

There is a possible mix-up that I am trying to pin down.  I've been in touch with Dave, and he confirmed the # on his rental SPOT, but it is possible that the backs of the units got switched in the early morning hours of the start when we were putting new batteries in the Trace units.  Can you further confirm Bryan or Dave's position?

Thanks,
Stefan

Sorry, I am out so I cannot.... but every split after Tarryall road seems like Bryan. But its possible I'm wrong.

I had past Bryan on Tarryall Road on the way to the Stagestop and then I started bonking and he caught back up to me a little bit after Tarryall Reservoir. The reservoir split shows him 5 minutes after me at the lake and I know it was Bryan and Barry Ritchey who caught me just after that as we pulled into the Stagestop.

Then Tuesday morning leaving Leadville, myself, Garrett Alexander, Aaron Boatman, and Bryan all headed up Halfmoon road together and Bryan pulled away slightly..... thus the Mt. Elbert split (Dave Stewart) shows him 5 minutes ahead of me there.

So I'm using some deduction, but every split seems accurate as Bryan.... the Searle Pass... Tenmile... every single one.

Hard as f*ck. Get it Neil.

This will go down as one of the performances of the year without question. In combination with Jefe's divide run there are some good things coming out of the GO camp. Nice work boys.

I hope that Neil's greeting party has lots of ice. A bag for his knee--and another for his beer!

I hope there's a crowd to salute Neil as he comes in, with beer and burgers (and maybe an orthopedic surgeon).
