Re: Leadville detour
Could someone post a written and/or basic graphic of the Leadville detour route that DOES NOT enter Leadville-preferably from west to east (DRO>DEN) ? Thank you.

Oh! I see (thanks Matt!!!). Take Halfmoon to 300, briefly east on 300 then north on Rd5, then north on 9, then it becomes 99 just before it rejoins the old route on 24. It rejoins 24 after the 91 intersection. It is 1.8miles shorter with 213feet less of climbing.

I'm still trying to figure out a shuttle. I thought I had it solved by a friend in Denver but he's not available. I could be there a few days early. I'd be up for sharing a ride back to Durango in a rental car either before or after the race. Before is probably better since I don't have a clue how fast I can get through this
There's always Amtrak from Denver to Grand Junction, then Road Runner Stage Lines bus to Durango. Problem with that is Amtrak gets to GJ too late to catch RR that day, so you have to spend the night. I haven't looked into if there's another bus carrier that gets to GJ earlier in the day. I've been looking into this myself since I don't know a soul around there, so it's hard to make arrangements. I haven't looked into one way rental cars or moving trucks like U-Haul though. I just assumed they would be crazy expensive one way. You could always turn around and ride back

Just go through Leadville!
One of the best resupply points on the route. I wouldn't miss it. But then again...that's just me.

I agree on the stop in Leadville. The Manhatten opens at 9am,nothing like a Crown and Coke for the push to Copper.

Took the Bustang on Tuesday and it rules. Bikes can be taken on it for free, and no need to pack it up - just put it on the bike rack! Didn't even bat an eye with all the bags afixed to the bike! The West line goes from Denver to Glenwood Springs. Not a bad idea if you have to stop your ride in Leadville or Frisco. $12 to get to Denver from Frisco! There's another bus that goes from Leadville to Frisco ($5). Same deal: bikes can go on for free. Living on the Front Range, and being car free, this is a total game-changer for me. http://ridebustang.com/routeshttp://www.co.summit.co.us/index.aspx?nid=447

Mark should be having a pretty nice day out there right now, but segment 2 is probably going to be pretty hot.
Have I mentioned how much I'm starting hate segment 2? I despise it almost as much as Tenmile. Hot and gravel filled ruts, pretty much bad riding but without the views that Tenmile affords.

Wow. That new Bustang service does open up a lot of possibilities on the front range and the I70 corridor. I didn't see any racks in the pictures? Are they on the front? How many do you think it would hold?

Hey Durango peeps, anyone have a recommendation for affordable accommodation in Durango for a few days... I get in on Wednesday to hang out, relax and 'acclimate' haha. Thanks to a tanking Canadian dollar this trip is going to be a little costlier than expected.
I'd rather not be at the far end of town where the Knights Inn and the Caboose Hotel are. Closer to main is better. Any ideas...? Thanks.

the reason I asked is because someone told me there was a gas station real close to the ct in breck but its not listed
Matt, there's a 76 station that I *think* is open 24 hours a day right off I-70 just north of where the route cross the highway that heads south to Leadville. It's on the I-70 frontage road maybe 3/4 mile off route. Maybe this is the one that you heard about? There's nothing close to the CT crossing on the highway to Breck. Edit...this is no longer open 24 hours a day. It looks like the hours are 7 am to 8 pm daily.

Addy,
Good to hear another Canadian is here to join me! For Durango Lodging try Days End or Adobe Inn. Both about as cheap as they get for mid summer in Durango and a short 5 min pedal to the start.

Matt,
The closest resupply off of Hwy 9 that I know of is 3.1 miles south (uphill) on 9 to a 7-eleven.

There is a gas station on the south side of Breckenridge High School on hwy 9. I'm not sure its hours though, doesn't look like a 24 hour store.
