Scott is too busy riding his bike somewhere in Oregon it looks like (good on him!) - the weather layer is one of my favorites though...
Jesse 'Superman' Jakomait. Does he wear a cape? He should - 'cause he's flyin.
Dang, I forgot about the radar layer -- someone should have emailed me as I haven't been checking in here. It's back, but too late. Weather layer itself got pulled by google and isn't supported anymore, unfortunately. Dang Jesse, just dang. Really cool to see the years of work and obsession all come together in a killer run. Stoked on all the triple crown finishers -- new record in the men and first woman and first singlespeed finish! Plus a double triple coming up from Mark C. Such a great race this year. |

Thanks for adding the weather layer, Scott. It's not too late for those of us still watching the dots! And a belated thanks for the great photos, Nick (I think it was Nick). It's great to see your race through your eyes. This has been and still is a vintage year for the CTR. Enjoying every moment.

Dang! Nice work out there everyone! Watching Alice all summer long was a treat. So consistent throughout...with really fast times to boot.

Congrats to all of the finishers!!! Only a few left on the course now, including Mark - first double triple Challenge Finisher (well, soon to be later this evening - don't mean to jinx him this close to the finish  ), - WooHoo!! To all those that started but had to withdraw, just remember, you beat all of us off the couch in the forum that weren't able to race. Aaron - Really enjoyed your story (have to wait until tonight to watch the video - no vids at work!), you have a talent for writing and making great videos/pics and stories about your races/journeys. You had a great run and we liked watching your blue dot move so quickly across the course. While you are second guessing yourself, in the midst of a race, one's brain is not reliable to think clearly and logically about all possible choices. Good luck and hope you will come back to try it again! It was also interesting to read about Joe Grant, a professional ultra-runner, and how, as a rookie with little bike-training and on a hardtail with drop bars, rocked this race. Ah, just rings true that it is not the bike (though it certainly helps), but the machine on the bike. |

Copper bike shops - pfff. Their tech was not in on a Monday when I needed a spoke a couple years back. Guy in the shop couldn't fix anything without the tech. Fabulous photos as usual Aaron. |

For what it's worth, the only reason I stock Easton hub parts is because they break ALL THE TIME. Bummer on your run, Aaron - before I read your post, I was wondering "Why not just a new wheel?" But as mtnbound said, logic isn't always our strong point in the middle of these sorts of things...

My Penalty for taking longer with the 14ers: getting hammered with bad weather. 2 hail storms and yesterday 6 hours of solid rain, deep mud slog. Thunder at slumgullion and rain starting again made me do a right turn to drop down to lake city - Carson doesn't sound the right place in those conditions. Nice lunch and beer makes up for the climb back up tomorrow and hopefully the weather settles down. Now that week 2 has started, I'm clearly on touring pace.

After dedicating my life to this trail for 5 years and learning from the great masters Ethan and Jefe I sit here with a huge glow of accomplishment finally content to just sit in peace without the endless urge to do more training, planning, gear hunting, strategizing...
Congratulations Jesse. That's a nice feeling. I just rode in the Mountains Revenge this past weekend - and kept marveling at your CTR pace this year as I was trudging up Radical Hill. Wow! We camped at a campground near Dillon Reservoir prior to the race and we were sitting with the people next to us one night. The guy asked about my bike (I had my GPS and a gas tank on it) and if I was doing a race. We got to talking about bikepacking and the Mtns Revenge, and he proceeded to tell us that he and his family had been watching your blue dot...and - this is the best part - that his young daughter was running around their house for a few days pretending she was 'Jesse' in the bike race. I just had to share that with you! |

Aaron,
Your pictures and write up are very cool. Beautiful scenery. Your passion about these adventures is great. I imagine many riders can identify with being tough on ourselves, our internal critic. Good job on quickly moving though all the segments you did.
Your pictures motivate me to get out there.

Oh, I've been warned before about Easton hubs - guess I needed to learn the hard way! And about buying a wheel - my befuddled brain at the time said I'd already spent enough money on this damn race and it wasn't worth it for just the last 150 miles that I'd already seen before. Of course, NOW I strongly disagree....it would have been so worth it |
