Removing the Tenmile detour replaces ~12 miles and ~500' of paved bikepath with 13 miles and 3600' of rocky singletrack on the actual CT. Removing Cinnamon pass replaces a 3 mile paved descent and ~35 miles/4000' of jeep road with ~33 miles/8000' of continuously above-treeline alpine terrain on the actual CT. Lake City becomes 6 miles *one way* off route making for an extremely lengthy portion of riding (~200 miles from B.V. to Silverton) without resupply. We would ride Segments 22 & 23 instead of descending to Lake City. See the link below: http://www.coloradotrail.org/reroute.html CTR webpage

I voted to keep it the same (and I have ridden the Tenmile section and made a failed attempt at Spring Creek -- bailed off the divide at ~13,000' due to storms). Call me a wimp.
Wimp!
Thanks.

Same here. Looking to better my TT. The Cinnamon Pass detour is good riding. Los Pinos is the boring part and that would stay the same. The course is great, keeps it fun. I have thought about the extra mileage with some misery thrown in for good measure. This already pushes my limits. Thanks.

I fear change without reason. I vote to keep it the same so each year's results can be compared to the others.

Well I voted to keep it as is. My rationale for doing so was that I simply haven't finished what I originally set out to do. If the course is changed, I'll be there but then I'll go back and do the route from last year just because I feel like I got robbed and I owe it to myself and all the people that donated money to the cause I was raising money for. However, I actually do support the idea of change. I haven't ridden any of the trail that's open for debate and I completely agree with Alison that it's just not my place to comment on it. I worry about weather but the reality of it is that lightning can get to us anywhere on the route. Certainly there are areas where it might be more dangerous or exposed but that's what we're all showing up for right?

If a walker can hike the CTR and avoid/deal with storms then so a biker, and likely faster. Sure there is metal with a bike, but really now this is the Colorado Trail Race - if it’s rideable then it should be ridden. However I acknowledge, Allison, that I have not ridden these sections: count my vote as half a vote, at best.
I don’t want people to get hurt, yet I recognize I am not responsible for anyone who gets hurt. That said, I have assumed 1) observing weather and, if possible, wait out storms 2) attempt key long altitude sections early 3) have extra supplies and 4) be prepared for emergencies (spot tracker, identifying escape routes, etc.) and 5) keep things in perspective - its just a race.
Since I didn’t finish the race last year (came close) I am not concerned with past records. I know that’s selfish to those past riders, for what its worth I respect past records.
For me it’s more than just a race, it’s an experience. Either way I am in.

Just curious, why not the Breck+Copper segment?

I voted to get rid of both detours and stick to the trail as much as possible. Guess I've always just been a Full-Monty kinda guy...

Because I prefer to be demoralized later in the race than early...too make Frisco/Copper early and continue incremental to “last chance civilization points” till Silverton. Makes sense to my mojo anyway. Either way I am in.

Just to be clear, if we drop Cinnamon Pass, we would ride Segments 22 & (rerouted) 23 instead of descending to Lake City. See the link below: http://www.coloradotrail.org/reroute.html(I also added this info to my first post)

Hi all. For what it's worth, I vote to ride the trail in its entirety. Challenging for sure, but that sure looks like some beauuuutiful country... Two trails diverged in the woods, and I took the one less traveled and more singletracked!

stefan, you know the route well. my sense is you asked the question twice in this thread b/c you know the seriousness of the lake city change.
strategically speaking its an interesting twist cuz if one can make it to silverton without a back-track resupply to LC, its a huge time bonus over those who must bail for food. my guess is that many will end up not making it w/o LC resupply. from BV (or princeton hot springs) to LC area is one hard freaking stretch; makes grown men cry. more than one 08 racer bailed after/during it.
i probably didn't pack enough food for that stretch in `07 but i gotta say i was absolutely starving by the time i got to LC at the end of day two (from BV). i cannot imagine having gone on without LC resupply. 200 miles means three days for most riders. that's a long way to go, even in good weather, hiking almost as much as riding.
I am all for making the race as hard as possible, and preserving course records should not be the guide, but if the change is made, its worthy of a biggie-sized warning about how much food to hump from BV. there will be some bonking. it ain't just any old 200 miles.

I voted to remove Frisco and stay on trail; but can't really 'vote' on adding 22 & 23. But if we could stay on trail to Kenosha I'd be psyc'd ... and would definatly like to stay on trail to Silverton

I can't vote on the route because 2009 will be my 1st try, but can I vote to NOT start at 6AM? I assume there is a good reason, but damn. My wife is already happy about me doing it and waking up at 3 AM to get me to the start isn't going to help.
Nevermind - just saw the date / time thread.

I realize the impact of the seg.22,23 addition. The magnitude is enhanced w/o resupply. I need a challenge. I know how to finish the CTR having done it. It depends on the weather for me. With the additional stuff, it depends even more on the weather. I,m all for sticking to the trail but some "biking" element will be removed, might not be attractive to pure bikers. Hike-a-bike is part of mountain biking to me and there is a bunch already on CTRV1. If there were no detours we would to the pure CTR. Hike or whatever. I kinda want to keep it fun with resupply but feel the need for a more complete version. I would`ent mind throwing the hiking community a bone by staying off primo trail +I=wimp. I`m ready for V2. I need a challenge. Crap, I think I`ll do the Grand Loop for punishment for writing this.

2009 will be my first go at it.....but I vote to leave it as it is. I like the continuity of a standard route, year in year out. Also...it'll be hard enough for me as is!
