Would love to do them both but who knows if I'll have the time or energy. Anyone have any thoughts on one versus the other? Is one prettier, more challenging, or better weather? I know the GSB changed routes a little this year so not sure if anyone can really weigh in but please do.

Hi, I did both last year.

I live in the region of the GSB. Weather in Central Otago can be quite unpredictable, we had very hot weather and snow last year. The GSB will be perhaps more remote and quite different scenery than the KB.

Kiwi Brevet had beautiful scenery too, lots of bush and a bit of easy hike a bike....

Hard decision, both were great, that's why I'll be doing both...

Thanks crossrider. Good information. It looks like you had some snow on the GSB... besides that bit, how was the hike a bike?

I raced both too and found the GSB quite a bit tougher (in a good way). Longer between resupply and tougher terrain. As they are both at the same time of year the weather will be pretty similar, it is a pretty settled time of year.
If I had to choose one, it'd be the GSB. Both are in beautiful parts of the world with the central Otago region slightly more so.
Will be great to see you over there!

I have NO business saying this....

but I will be in NZ from 12/26...and after my wife heads back home on the second week of January - I was planning on hanging out until the KB....I guess I could "hang out" by doing the GSB!   headbang........ icon_scratch

Ollie - any rumblings on the '14 event that you are aware of?

Nothing to report. I'm currently living in Australia so a bit out of the loop, but I'd expect the website to be updated shortly. I am checking it weekly!

The blog is up, as well as the facebook group. Kiwi Brevet 2014 is the handle.

Hey are the rumours true that you might be turning the GSB into a 'special occassion'?
