Great ride Tom! Glad to year you found it challenging enough  icon_biggrin

Scott - I knew there was a story, you were flying for most of the event.

Has anyone heard from or seen Brad Mattingly? His SPOT went silent at Tod's.

And, did anyone have a moose encounter on the initial climb? Something I never laid eyes on was mad and huffing in the trees, sounded like a moose about to charge. It was pissed and I could go only so fast up that climb...

Congratulations to all the finishers headbang This is probably the most challenging 200 miles in bikepacking.

Go ahead and mark me as a scratch. I just couldn't pull it off this year.

Fyi, Brad called it quits before the climb up to Bryce Woodlands and the Pangusunt.

Thanks for the heads up. It's hot this year, that had to take a toll.

How was the camp at Strawberry point?

Had a rough first day with routefinding right after the first big climb was over.  Missed the turn into the meadow with no trail.  While heading on a fast downhill I recked into a down tree a mile or two before the road crossing heading toward Navajo Lake.  Cut my knee and both arms.  Kept riding to exhaustion through Virgin River.  Just moving too slow.  Hot.  Chain issues. Decided to DNF about six miles after Todds the next morning.  A lot of work to get back to the start.

Those are some impressive times for the first few riders.  Good job all who finished.

Cool riding with Aaron for a while.

Did anyone take a picture of that ginormous tree that fell across the Grandview trail? That struck me as funny for some reason and I'm kicking myself for not snapping a pic.

Fantastic route. Great race. Thanks Dave! I'll probably write up a little summary and post a link a bit later.

Sorry to hear about Scott Schaefers bad luck. i can attest to his tire trouble because he was riding strong and passed me about 20 times and then I'd find him back up the trail jacking with his tire. He would have put up a very nice time.

What a spectacular course!  In my opinion the ratio of trail types is near perfect. Very little pavement, I nice blend of gravel, a big singletrack focus both flow ad techy, AND some straight up hike-a-bike.  Well done!

59 hrs 56 mins. Maybe the best BP event out there. Don't change a thing, Dave. A brutal beast of a route. So beautiful. Fuck Harold's however.

I wish I would have snapped a picture of that huge tree, but I was trying to wrap my head around how to get over it. It was great riding with you Scott. I was in a bad place and your company kept me going. My only regret was not continuing on with you into the night. The good news is I only got 1 more flat.
I hope that some of this years group returns and we add a few to the start list. It was great having people out there to share the experience with. It really is an amazing route and Dave should be applauded for his hard work and creativity.
I would have to say my favorite section was the Crawfard Pass Trail, it was beautiful as the sun was coming up. I know that Grand View at night and Spruce are both brutal, but the section from 89 to Panguitch Lake can suck the life out of you.
I'd be interested to hear what you all think about you favorite or least favorite sections.

Camping at Strawberry Point was a definite highlight for me. The only thing I did better this year was picking good campsites. Good times riding and camping with Brad and Michael. thumbsup

Congrats to Evan for just finishing!  Good to see one California sea dweller made it to the finish :-)

Dave H - left me out of the DNF list, which I guess is fine. Michael Grosso. That was tough. I pulled out at the same spot/time as Erin after Harold's Place turned out to be permanently closed. Food issues on Saturday really did me in. I rallied up Thunder mountain after that but called it at 89 after I wasn't going to get any food at Harold's.  Didn't see making it without any calories to the next food stop. The will wasn't there. Got some food at the Quality Inn, but by the time my legs came back online, I was already cruising the other way into Panguitch with Erin.

This is the hardest BP event I have tried and you people are fucking beasts. Gorgeous course, but if I see another downed tree I am going to vomit.

FYI - Michael Ackerman is a beast. Rode with him a lot and it made a huge difference. Happy to see him finish.

Michael - I did not know your status one way or another. My assumption is always that the rider is still on course until I hear otherwise. Now I know, thanks for the update.

Also, I really dislike the term "DNF". These events require huge energy expenditure, fortitude and a little luck. Finish is a matter of location, and I consider all starters to have finished. I consider the list of unranked riders more of a list of accomplishments.

David H - I see. I thought you just forgot to add my name. Didn't mean it as a criticism. I think your opinion on DNF should be taken up by the whole community. Thanks. Didn't know what else to call it. The Quality Inn on 89 after Harold's Place is where I called it.

Very hard course and I feel very accomplished having gotten as far as I did. Riding the trails after Thunder Mountain while the sun was rising has to be a pure highlight of racing. I got to test my limits, push through them and take away a lot of lessons for future successes.

Sorry to hear you had to pull the plug. I'm hoping that third time's a charm for me next year. If you come back, there is food at the trading post just before Harold's Place. There seemed to be alot more down trees on Spruce Trail than there was in October. Come back again next year.

All from the group start have been entered in the results a few posts up. For a few the times are picked off of Trackleaders, and probably not accurate. Email/pm me your finish time or elapsed time and I'll set it straight.

Meanwhile, Mike D. is out there givin it, working his way up the infamous Spruce trail. He's got a good shot at a sub 2-day finish even though he's logged ~ 10 hours of rest time. That will be his fasted time yet...must have been training this spring Wink

Congrats to all who started the Dixie. It is a tough one. It took me out twice before I was able to finish it.

I wish I was there for the start.  I think the total number of riders this year surpassed all the previous years together.

I was glued to Trackleaders.  Way more fun to watch than the TD.  I knew my record was in serious danger of being broken.

I am going to have to step up my game if I hope to keep up next year.
