FYI the reroute would start/finish as the Dixie Lite did http://2-epic.com/events/dixielite.html, but would still include the Paunsaugunt sections that weren't part of the Lite.

I was planning on going down...as long as the course would be fairly similar in nature and starting close to the original start (family already has/had lodging plans)...I'm in as well...

After comparing my reroute idea with the closed areas there is overlap BangHead

Unfortunately this means a "simple" reroute is not possible. The reroute gets within a mile of the fire perimeter, so even if it wasn't closed I'd still recommend steering clear. We're currently under record high temps and single digit humidities, the fire is only 4% contained and expected to grow despite 420 personnel working it.

The group start is off this year  sad2 Mother nature has her own plans.

Everything aside from Brian Head is open, so if you made plans there are plenty of trails to link up. Just steer clear of Brian Head.

For those of you that were planning to ride the Dixie, any interest in a ride around the wasatch? I have a route in mind.

Thanks Dave for your efforts. I will definitely do this ride next year. I would possibly interested in riding this weekend. However, I live in Idaho and am unfamiliar with the Wasatch area. Please let me know some route details and timing/duration...thanks and cheers!!!

Now that the Dixie is not happening I'm getting pulled in a different direction but might be interest in a ride around the Wasatch as well. What do you have in mind? Mileage, number of days, etc;Huh?

Cancelling the start has turned out to be a solid call. A big swath of the route from Panguitch Lake to the finish is on fire.

arcg.is/1bn9j4

Second lefthand canyon, Dark Hollow, Spruce trail, Bunker creeks (not part of route but fun trails) and the route from Panguitch Lake to the Spruce trail have all burned.

Sadly, this could be the end of this route. The fire has grown to 27k acres in a short time, who knows where it will end. The areas that have burned will surely be closed for some years to come.

Cheers to that!

I spent a few days in the Dixie area. Lots of new and rebuilt trail to work with. I'm doing a route overhaul and riding it this weekend. Details in new thread here http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/ultra-racing/dixie-200-updates-post-brian-head-fire/msg94552/#msg94552. Stay tuned for updated route and 2019 race date.
