OK, official route files and waypoints are available from http://2-epic.com/events/dixie200.htmlThere is also a link to a summary of water sources. Longest distance between water sources is from Te-ah campground at Navajo Lake to Todd's country store, about 36 miles. This includes the Virgin River Rim trail, a fun but somewhat demanding section so plan about 5ish hours, possibly more. There is water in between but it's off-route. Looking forward to meeting everyone Sat morning! Questions?

Will the pink cliffs view point be obvious? One more question, will there be live tracking? I just got a spot tracker and have the track progress on it . Do I just turn it on at the begining of the race? Thanks Jason.

Wow this is great, thanks for doing so much hard work on the recon, all this water talk is making me mighty thirsty!
I'm able to load the 10k track file onto my GPS but am having trouble getting the waypoint file to open. I was able to open the 2011 waypoint file in Basecamp and transfer it just fine but can't seem to get the current one to work, I get an error saying that it's not a valid gpx file. Any thoughts? I'm pretty new to the GPS world so I very well may be doing something wrong.

Dave, Thanks for all your hard work. All the Dixie courses are awesome.
Super psyched for this weekend. The Paunsaugunt Plateau is one of my favorite riding areas.
I could not get the waypoints to download either but I assume the Pink Cliffs waypoint is the high point between Straight and Mill Creek canyons. Basecamp is very frustrating and I have an older Mac so I can't get Topofusion.

OK, not sure what happened with those waypoints - I've updated them, give another try or to get just the waypoints right click this, save as... http://2-epic.com/maps/dixie/2012/dixie200_waypointsv2.gpxThe Pink Cliffs waypoint (in the above file) is the destination. You will come across a "pink cliffs" sign on the Paunsaugunt ATV trail between Mill Cr and Crawford Pass - just go up that road, turn left where it forks and follow it to it's end. Make sure to hike the short bit out for the real bonus view (where the waypoint was taken). It looks like this: Let me know how these waypoints work for y'all!

That is what I thought but was a high point too early. Thanks

Thanks for the scouting! Water is nice and evenly spaced along the route.
Food re-supply appears to be Tod's at 72 miles and Harold's Restaurant at 155, with nearby grocers in Panguitch being a 12-15 mile detour. And then there's the sketchy options at Panguitch Lake, mile 182, before the last grunt.
Anything to add to this?

We are getting a tracker set up on trackleaders, it will live at http://trackleaders.com/dixie200To get in on the tracker, update this spreadsheet with at least your first name, last name, and public spot share page link. Other fields are optional. Yep, tracker is online. Decided to skip the paying step mostly because I don't have time to set it up! If you're doing the Dixie and like our service, you can always hit us with a small donation at: http://trackleaders.com/supportThanks. I rode something very close to this route in 2009 and loved it. Sad to miss out, but another ride calls my name. Mmmm... Burger Barn.... that place is heaven on earth.

Aside from LW's clarification of Panguitch lake services, there is a small store at Navajo Lake a short distance off-route (1/4 mile maybe). It's pretty early in the ride but nicely timed for an early afternoon ice cream It's in the waypoints, you can also see it here as Navajo Lodge http://2-epic.com/maps/311map.html?map=dixie200_with_waypoints.kml&index=0http://www.navajolakelodge.com/index.htmlPrices are steep as I recall, I wouldn't plan to get a lot from here unless I wasn't going to make Tod's store during business hours.

Taylor, hopefully you've received those tracks via email and have it sorted out now. If not, I put direct links to all the files on the event site - just hit the 10,000 point track link and that will load on your GPS. http://2-epic.com/events/dixie200.html

I have a older etrex and had to simplify/spline it to 9999 points and 499 per route. That was before Dave made the simplified tracks.

Just a heads up: Utah is under state-wide fire restrictions. No open fires or smoking on public lands, so it's best to leave the Marlboros at home

Please let me know I live in Flagstaff and I am guessing that you will be driving through here on your way up to Utah. I won't be riding my bike for quite a while. You can borrow my GPS if you want. Let me know and I can load the track and hand it off to you on your way through! 9288649325 Eric
