I there a Spot replay available from Matts '09 record run? It would be nice to see how Craig is doing compared to the record.

not sure about the replay, but he is on fire. He should be able to achieve Ovando, probably Lincoln tonight. Maybe he will venture beyond and bivy somewhere on the way to Helena. And that at the end of day 3!!!!!

Also, JP....odd that he chose to halt in Elkford. Hmmmm.

....Stappy still on fire-hope the LIMA section is mud free. Sleeping about 4hours per night.... Consistent efforts....good recipe for success....
Amazing what happens when relatively unencumbered by weather and snow-that translates into some "free" hours me thinks.

Stapplers moving average speed is 15.8mph...how is that even possible? Crazy. And the average miles per day 269?  Something must be up with the tracking system.  Either way, these guys are moving.

they are indeed moving-but not that fast. Craig's track is missing the canadian section, so the computer must be basing averages off of erroneous data. BTW, he's a rookie to this race! It's Jay's third run at it.

Stappler's speed is well known in western Canada, and beyond as well (believe he won two stages of TransPortugal this spring, unofficially after an electronic tracking snafu on a previous day).

His one-day to several-day endurance is also not in question, but a two-week plus effort at this pace may be unknown territory.

That's in part what makes this fascinating watching - speed vs. endurance decisions, veteran vs. rookie experience, clean shaven vs. mutton chops, etc.

About 10 days ago it was completely dry.  Not sure if it has rained since then.

It looks as if craig has cleared the Lima mud hurdle-that's big. Now to clear ashton flagg ranch without mud, then the latter half of union without mud, then the basin without headwinds, colorado should be ok, then new mexico heat and mud. whew!

(with oh too familiar accent)-"these racers are moving along like grand prix motorcars"

hmmm. Stappy is still in LIMA as of 7:30 AM. Wonder if he came into town after all the restaurants and stores closed? I think that convenience store closes early, not sure about the restaurant.

Hey
Looking through the threads, but didn't see this information.

Did Craig and Jay end up starting at the same time?  If not, what is the starting time difference between these two?

Also, I saw a detour mentioned.  Could someone explain what and where.

Thanks
P

Anyone know what is going on with Craig? The lengthy stop seems out of character thus far...

Doesn't look good...his full history tracker shows a green tent at Island Park yesterday afternoon (that's alot of Subway, time spent at the mini-mart, or whatever), then a 4.5hr duration to get from the Hwy 20 crossing to Warm River CG.  That's slow, even if it was in the dark along the rail trail.  There's good speed to be carried in some sections there.  Zooming in on the individual tracker history shows some backtracking happened along Wood River Rd close to Warm River.  So, +4-hr stop at Hwy 20 + slow(ish) + backtrack + still pegged to town of Ashton = somethin's up.
