The Trans America Trail (TAT) moto route doesn't see very much traffic at all from what i can tell. And surely minimal traffic once you get out west in to the more remote areas. I think it would work very well actually.
I do a lot of dual sport motorcycling as well as biking.
I found this guy who has done a ton of routes all over the country that would be applicable to this sort of idea:
http://www.bigdogadventures.com/

scroll down towards the bottom and he has extensive writeups on all the routes he has done.
a good read regardless.

Another idea, stitch the GDMBR to the CTR at around Breckenridge, and the CTR to the AZT at Durango and...? (Utah, somewhere - there's gotta be something - a BIG something - well, here's something -> http://www.bigdogadventures.com/Moab.htm)

Moto routes scare me, just because the amount of beta between resupplies is a little questionable at 9mph and 6,000 calories a day.

I think doing the CTD w/whatever you want would be a thrill. Since it's not all complete, you could simply have Lat/Long points that you're required to hit, no matter the route. Thought the big ditch was hard? Ha!

Trans Canada Trail in 2017!
http://tctrail.ca/explore-the-trail/
Very few have biked the route across Canada - and no one has yet to race it.
A lot less traffic than the RAAM route and none of the politics.

Wow, I have seen that before.  Don't know how I didn't remember it.  Looks like quite a story with all of the trouble they ran into.

Sorry to continue the thread hijack but I met those guys in Guatamala. I think they were also the ones who rode through the Grand Canyon and blogged about it. When the park service read about it, they caught up with them and cited them.

World record for self supported Ushuaia to TDF is 121 days... mostly road I assume.
