Have fun , Jeff!

I hope to see you on route, but I'm sure you will be finished before I start.

The River Trail in the Grand Valley will have a detour due to the high level of the Colorado River.

Once I have the details of the detour more firmly in place, I'll post a small gps track of the detour.  Half of the detour is marked now if East bound on the trail.  Waiting for the West bound to have signs placed by the city.

If anyone knows how to reach Jeff or anyone else that has already started, please pass along the for now limited knowledge of the detour.

Thank you

I've talked to one of the city engineers and we've come up with a detour to bypass the River Trail at a section where the high spring runoff has caused a problem with the trail near the Colorado River.

The detour track is 4.1 miles long and parallels the River Trail along River Road.  The River Road has a marked bike path for most of the detour and is marked for cyclist on the remainder.  As of this morning the detour is not fully signed by the city.

The track is approximate for west bound travel in the Grand Junction area or counterclockwise direction of the Grand Loop.

Well I started at Dewey yesterday morning and was all good until about Fruita at sunset. The heat got to me a bit. So I bailed on the attempt.

I was trying to nail down a new setup for bikepacking on a 6" travel enduro bike. It was great I am going to use it on all my short trips and the CTR if I show up for it. The Koko had lots of bikepackers on it mostly heading south to Moab.

I left Fruita Sunday 5/22 at 1330, and got back Friday 5/28 evening. Since I was doing this as a relaxed tour rather than race, I didn't ride at night. I also cut out some of the miles where the Paradox and Tabeguache meet. The Kokopelli was harder than I was expecting; the first two days were more type 2 fun than type 1.

The amount of motorized traffic on the Kokopelli was frustrating. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, but once I got off the Kokopelli, the whole trip got much better.

I hit a little bit of mud, saw snow though never had to ride through it, and rode around and over lots of dried mud ruts. The timing was perfect as far as weather goes. I had a brief bit of flurries, and got rained on between GJ and Fruita.

Sounds like a great trip Jeff. Have you posted pics anywhere?

Surely this is the first time I've heard "relaxed tour" associated with the GL Wink
