GST 2013

Hey All,

Thought I'd start a thread for the Grenzsteintrophy 2013.

Who's in? Or who's thinking about doing it? It'd be a good way to come over to Europe and see some sights that most tourist don't see. Also it's "only" 1200 km long, I'm not sure about exact length but it's close enough. So it could be done in a week or less if you're fast. I think the current best time is around 5 days. Getting to the start is fairly easy with the good public transportation system here.

For all Euros,  come on out and join us. Start is on June 17Th in Priwall-Travemünde, Germany.

I am doing a preliminary study to see about doing this in 2013. I am looking for the route (even the 2012 route) shown on something like google earth or map my ride. Any ideas?

Hi Jeff,

I sent you an email with the gpx file from 2011. Nice to have someone from the come over from the states and ride in this, gives it a more international flair. If you have anymore question feel free to fire away. Mental-Miles is the man behind the GST, he knows a lot more about it than I do. But I can help out with logistics once your in Germany.

Just a tip from my side. Wait for the official 2013 track that will be issued a few weeks prior the event next year!! The route changes from 2011 to 2012 were significant. Less tank plates and more ridable sections. For 2013 further adaption to the route is planned. So my advice: Send an email to info@grenzsteintrophy.de and tell them that you are in and planning an ITT for 2013. They pick you up in the email distribution list and you'll get the new track as soon as it's available.

That's what I'd do too, wait for the new track. I can, if you want, send you the old track though. From what I've been told, the old original route was tougher, a lot more steep ups and downs.

Hi folks,

we are working on the 2013 route ... in oppesite to TD, the GST has no proven route a basic layer ... every meter is scouted by volontary cyclists ... we do changes every year ... some to the better, some to the worser ... it depends to the point of view. 2012 GST with the easiest GST by Walking/Climbing, 2010 was the hardest I guess ... however to give you an impression where it goes: Here you find the scouting corridor of the route: http://www.grenzsteintrophy.de/files/2011/08/GST_2012_Korridor.gpx_.zip

The 2013 file will be finished at least 8 weeks before the GST starts. Starting date is 17th of June 8.am. at Priwal Beach next to Lübeck ... nearst int. Airport is Hamburg! Just drop mails, if you have got questions! Cheers M-M

Over here in the US we are using a garmin basemap and topofusion software. What basemap and software should we use for the GST?

Also, I plan to continue from the finish of the GST and bikepack towards Italy. Any route suggestions?

in 2011 I used my garmin mapsource. Topofusion doesn't work over here and i don't think there's anything thats comparable. I checked out the route through google maps, loaded it on my gps device and went. Probably not the best way but its what i did.

Continuing your ride through to italy sounds really cool. you'd probably have to do a lot of pavement if you want to make as many miles as possible. Personally I'd just hop on a train somewhere and go to Munich or Rosenheim and restart from there. Theres a lot of choices once you get down there; you can find tracks and info on the good ol internet. :-)

Whatever you do, it'll be a really cool trip.

Hello GST-facturer (drivers, friends, helpers, ...)

as one or the other has already heard of you, I'm going this year, the Tour Divide and therefore can not spend as much time the GST ... the track is on "simmer" and will be ready within the next two weeks, his (Phil hurry up!)!

But there is a point at which it hacks!

Waypoints

I have "a ton" of files (about 50) in which there are also waypoints. This would have to be prepared once.

Who wants to do something to the success / Enhance the GST?
Sure all of you!

Who has time to do this within the next two weeks on your own computer?

The goal is to have a single waypoint file in which all are combined and were dubbed uniform. In a format that all relevant information can be seen at all major GPS devices.

Certainly no work for a total GPS newbie, but also not a freak project.

I am very happy about feedback and thank you once before on behalf of all GST-2013 driver for the help!
