what gps/mounting system would you get?
what bivy would you buy?
what would you splurge on in terms of gear in order to make you the most competitive?
hypothetically winning the lottery,

personal trainer and a nutritionist to plan every meal and workout for me, and to keep me focused and motivated
move to colorado or patagonia for a couple of years, train at altitude
enjoy life, bring the family with me, everyone takes time off work
then,
grab whatever gear is easy to use, lightest for the durability you need depending on the trip, and whatever bike fits the best and has the gearing / cargo capacity for the trip / race / event

Luckily bikepacking is still one of those sports where having a lot of cash doesn't really do that much for you. Especially in terms of gear.
How much could one possibly spend on a GPS and bivy? $700?
IMHO, the $160 eTrex is better than any $700 Edge cycling specific GPS. And the lighter/cheaper Adventure Medical bivys run about $25.
Sometimes less is more.
Now, having financial freedom to focus time and mental energy on preparation, training and practice trips -- that can make a huge difference. The most competitive racers don't have the best gear, they have the dedication to it, and make the sacrifices to put it as a priority in their lives. My 2c, anyway.
