Kokopelli 100/140 shut down for 2019

Saw this article in the local Moab paper. I didn’t realize it was an “orginized” event, but I guess it was.

Can't believe this is still happening:

This is not the same thing as the classic Kokopelli Trail Race which was/is an unsupported ride.

The Kokopelli 100/140, a mountain bike ultramarathon that for the last two years began in Fruita, Colorado and finished at the Sand Flats Recreation Area just outside of Moab, has been deemed to pose a “significant danger to the safety of the public.”

wait...i thought that's what the point of these things was?  if it were easy and perfectly safe, everyone would do it.

how many people die in stupid jeep/motorcycle/atv accidents every year in moab?  die or need to be rescued off the colorado river?  doesn't stop them from permitting for that.
