As soon as I bailed last year I started a list for next time.

# 2 on the list is a sleeping pad.

# 1 on the list is a reminder not to ride that trail again.

I am running the REI blue foam pad and it weighs 4.25 oz. after being cut down. I would guess that a pad could be lighter than mine.

I am going with a 17oz REI minimalist bivy, a 2oz emergency blanket and my pad (total- 23.25oz.). Suprisingly, the e-blanket in the bivy is warmer than my 32 degree bag in the same bivy (must be a condensation fest with the bag in the bivy). I go out a lot and test gear so I got lucky and dropped 19 oz. and got warmer.

A trimmed ridgerest.  It's waterproof, light, and more comfy (to me) than the prolite.

Keep in mind it doesnt count unless I can get to Durango!  Actually, I havent tried half of what I got other than pedaling to work on monday!  Can you really sleep on a car sun visor?  Time to learn the hard way!

The sun visor worked well on my CTR’s and TDR.  It’s not really for ‘padding’ but rather a bit of insulation.

If I pick the right ‘soft spot’ on the ground it works very well, even for a side sleeper like me.  (But it worked only so so on the smooth concrete floor of an Wyoming outhouse)

And depending on the ground conditions the visor can go under or inside my bivy.  Using it inside my bivy seems to keep me a bit warmer on frosty mornings.

I'm not entirely certain I'm going yet but probably 87% today. If I show up, I'll be riding this:

Impressive

It is pretty impressive how light you can get out there. I always feel that i take the bare minimum with me and my rig weighs 52lbs with food no H20. When i sleep at night the bike is always empty. I guess i should re-think my " bare minimum " thoughts? Most of these bikes have less stuff and weight than i take on a 2 hour ride. Good job Guys and Gals! Thanks for sharing.

Cheers-  Jim
