I would seriously like to change the race date next year to late June/ early July, because the course will be greener then, and there will be more flowers, it will make a great tuneup for the ctr, and not conflict with the velorution venture or the monarch mind bender.  But, I really wanted to finish the route and get it out there for this summer.

Then you will conflict with the Dixie which is another great CTR tune-up. Good luck! You're bound to conflict with something these days - which is a good thing!!!!!

Route looks fantastic

Like Woodland said, you're always going to conflict with something!  Just pick a date that will work best with the terrain and go for it!

bighorn250.blogspot.com

I have added a ROUGH GPX to the website.  There were a couple of places where I wandered around in uncleared deadfall for 100 or 200 yards, the first is at about 205 miles, and the second is at about 222 miles.  I also drew in a road (well marked and prominent on the map) at roughly mile 208 to 215) which I haven't ridden yet, and  then there are 2 or 3 places where I got slightly off route going across grassy areas, but never more than a small amount off. I am going to tour the route again around August 10 so that I have a continuous uninterrupted track, but this should work pretty well in the meantime if you want to check it out!  https://www.bikemap.net/en/route/3650022-bighorn-250-rough-gpx/

I set out to get a clean gpx track, but after about a 100 miles I had some mechanical and GPS issues which stopped me in my tracks.  I don't have the wherewithal to try again, so unfortunately this is not going to happen this year.  Maybe next year...

Does this mean the race is off? I was just about to sign up.....

Yep, sorry, but although I am getting pretty good with topofusion, I don't want to send
people out on a track which consists of hand-drawn segments and several merged tracks, too
much potential for mistakes.   I need to make a clean run from start to finish
to make sure I have a reliable, unedited .gpx track, and I just can't get it done
in the next couple of weeks. Plus, I am still finding better sections I want to add.
I will definitely get it going for next year though!

Was excited about coming out this year as  I happened to have an opening that weekend.  But also glad to see you taking the time to get the track dialed in and spending the time to get it right.  Looks really good so far!  Hope to be there next year icon_biggrin

Cool link, it looks like predicting where the shadow will be is complicated, since not only do you have to predict the orbits of the sun and the moon, but also how far the moon will be from earth at that time.  It will be an average of 360 years before a total solar eclipse will again be visible from this area!

Hi,
Are you still planning on running this race in 2017?

Thank you.

Yes, this will happen this year, looking at a start date around august 19 or 20 to take advantage
of the solar eclipse and ensure that grass is not hiding the trail.

Great - looking forward to it.  If the completed track is done ahead of time, I'd be interested in seeing it.  Thank you.

This will have a suggested start date of August 18, a medium to fast time will be in the neighborhood of 3 days, and the final gpx will be up in July.

Hi,
Does the route have anywhere to restock food or do you need to pack enough food for the full length?

Thank you

There is resupply in the town of shell, and at bear lodge near Burgess junction.  There are also a couple more options slightly off route.  The location and phone numbers of these resupplies will be added to the webpage.

Hey Aaron,
How are things looking for this event this summer? The blogspot is no longer accessible. Anywhere else to find info?
Anyone else interested for this year?
Cheers!
