Would it be feasible to do this route in late March or April?

Opting out of the 'grand depart' for this one (Sisters Stampede that same weekend), and have thoughts of an ITT in mid-March, or some other time of the year.

I started a new thread about this race since I could not get this one to come up in search. http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=10423.0;topicseenI am interested in what bike & tires everyone plans to use, and projected completion time. My plans for doing it on a trike are shot to hello because there is not currently a trike made light enough that my knees could handle the distance. I am looking at other options in alternative bikes now and chatting with some potential sponsors.

Hi there. This is a long shot, but I've got to ask... Is anybody heading from Bend to Klamath Falls the evening of Thursday, May 22nd? With room for a body and loaded bike? In exchange for gas money? Dinner, too? If so, please give me a call! Thanks, Owen.

Owen- PM sent, and I will call you as well.
Anyone else- I'm willing to drive folks from Bend to the start, the Thursday afternoon/early-evening prior to the Friday mass start. Have room for 3 riders plus all bikes/gear. So PM me if interested.

Owen, Depending on your ride time I can offer a ride back to Bend. I'm shooting for 4 days and my wife will be picking me up.

Thanks Mike! I sent you an email. Let me know what you think. Thanks to you as well Gary, but my wife can pick me up at the finish. Best of luck to everybody with your prep. Looking forward to meeting and riding with you in a week or so.

Anybody have a guess as to what the bug situation's gonna be like? Will I be a sad panda without bivvy/tent?

High desert of Central Oregon isn't necessarily conducive to large bug populations. Maybe wetlands down S around K Falls and some higher-up places where snow is still lingering will have some bugs. My guess is that there's a greater chance you'll get pegged hard in the face by a bee or bug while riding, versus getting kept up at night by skeeters. And, if you lay down where there's skeeters, than you just get up and move 'down the road', right? Then again, without bivy/tent, why sleep at all?

Wow. There's some people out there in the Oregon bush tonight who have been mowing down some gravel today and are still movin'. 14.5 hours into the ride, and at least 4 riders are beyond the 170mile mark (with who knows how many others than are not riding with Spot). Dang.
