Could anyone clue me in as to how you post your position with the Spot tracker? Does it need to be logged into a particular website for instance? Thanks much,

Pretty sure Scott will post up the link in each races discussion thread. Then you send him a number off of your spot.

Which event are participating in? Most bikepacking events have trackleaders rental units available, in which case we handle all that.
If you have your own, there's a registration process where you pay a small tracking fee and then supply the info needed (the SPOT share page is the biggest piece of info).

When participating the Tour Divide 2014. is there still the option to rent a Spot Device at the Grand Depart in Banff? Or is it wiser to buy a Spot (e.g.SPOT Gen3 Satellite GPS Messenger) together with $150 a year tracking service and to send some other additional kind of information to info@trackleaders.com. What exactly is required to be followed on trackleaders.com for the TDR2014?

Yep, we will have rental units available for TD this year, as usual.
Buy vs rent probably depends on whether you want to use a SPOT in other events or during your own adventures. If only using it for the divide, renting is definitely cheaper.

That sounds great, but how does it work? Do you make a reservation in advance? What are the costs?
And what if you buy a Spot gen3 yourself? Do you need a tracking service ($150 a year) from Spot them selves, in order to make it work with trackleaders.com?

When you buy a SPOT you have your own personal SPOT page. You can share this with whomever you like. When you register for a race that Trackleaders.com is supporting, there is a small fee (paid to Trackleaders), and you share you personal SPOT page with Trackleaders. They then host all the racers in the same event on their website.
You do have to purchase and activate the coverage for the SPOT unit in addition to the price of the physical unit. So, yes, a one year subscription to the service. You DON'T have to buy the $50 continuous tracker feature however. You can push the "OK" button on the device and send the signal that will display your location on your SPOT page, and subsequently on the Trackleaders race page on which you are being tracked. You push it [OK] as often as you like. The continues tracking feature through SPOT does this automatically for you. It's a convenience.
I give this info from the perspective of a SPOT I and SPOT II user. I'm not 100% sure if SPOT III has different annual contract requirements that may require you to buy continuous tracking. I'm thinking someone else on this forum knows - and of course Scott does as the mastermind behind the TL.com page.
