Thanks for all the stories about the riders from their families. It shows that TD is not only an event for Kurts, Ethans and Jefes ... but for a lot of other heroes!

well, Paul gets to show everyone how long it will take to get over Sand Mountain. I hope last nights rain did not compound the mud situation too much. However once crested and out of the trees he will be rewarded with a downhill ride to Brush Mountain Lodge here 5 star divide rider service awaits....

Overnight: David Goldberg called in from Pinedale, twice. He wanted to give a shout out to his support back home. This morning: Pete Faeth called in from Hartsel. You can get the audio here, via RSS, or on iTunes!

Excited to see the Virginia riders have all headed out of Lima. Markley Anderson, Bob Anderson and Dave Horton. I think these are the first 3 Virginians in TD history ...
So glad to see Markley moving again !!!

JE is also a native Virginian! He just talks like he's from Texas.

Looks like Kurt and Jefe are back on the move. Maybe they stopped at Brush Mt. Lodge for a quick rest/re-supply and now they're climbing toward Paul.

Ethan is just 4 miles or so behind Jefe and Kurt who are less than 10 miles from meeting up with Paul as of about 15 minutes ago. This is going to be a fun morning.

North meets South in the next few minutes below Bear's Ear Peak in Colorado near mile 1453. Will Kurt, Ethan , Jefe and Paul stop and have tea or just blow by each other?

Looking like the golden spike will be driven near Middle Mountain, how appropriate.

I think I spoke too soon. Kurt and Jefe may still be at the Lodge and Ethan Passant is just about to arrive. Paul is descending so he'll make some quick time I think. I wonder if Kurt, Jefe and Ethan will wait for Paul to arrive or meet him out on the trail?

This is JP Evans' mom...to expand on JP being a native Virginian, he is a credible Texan today, but he grew up in Vienna VA, a D.C. suburb. This gives context to his audio confession that he made fun in high school of a new arrival from Montana.
Also, re the question earlier about the "golden spike," the original reference was to the ceremonial spike (actually, several) that was/were driven in 1869 at the completion of the first transcontinental railroad at Promontory, Utah, where the western and eastern tracks met. (I confess I looked up the date.) Today, of course, it will be when the nobo and sobo riders cross paths.
Thanks for your hospitality, and rock on.

I hope someone places something at the site. In the history of man this is perhaps less extraordinary but for the TD this is quite a moment!

Hey all. Man, you guys have up-to-the-minute commentary going here! Jefe, Ethan, Dave Bruno, Eddie Clark, and I are enjoying some fantastic hospitality at the Brush Mtn Lodge before heading up into the snow on Sand Mountain.
Jefe can't think of anything to say because he is fried (but happy).
Ethan is highly caffeinated (to say the least), so I don't dare ask him for any comments to post.
Dave ate enough food that he claims he's 4 months pregnant.
Alright...that's all for now. We should probably be riding instead of having a party.
