This should be interesting to see how the next 36 hrs pan out. Historically, its where the race has been won (I know yer strategy Matt). But, with these reroutes, who knows. Why are the first 36 hours so important?

Typically, getting through these high elevation areas from Canada and up and back down into Whitefish are a real test. This year will be interesting, though, given that you will by-pass much of it. I'd expect to see fast times down to Helena. Montana is a big test for the racers and you see quite a number pull out before leaving it. These re-routes could mean more racers make it on to Wyoming. But there they have the basin to cross and then down into Colorado for the higher elevation, even on dirt roads.

In the first 36 folks are still getting use to the feel of the race, and it seems to me, Matt has used that opportunity to ride through the night, when everyone else stops, and get a gap which almost no one can close throughout the rest of the race. This from last year:
This from 09:
All the Tour Divide replays: http://topofusion.com/td09replays.php(thanks Scott for these replays. i know ive milled over them quite alot. )

Crazy Larry Melnik, TD’s undisputed cheerleader and racer caretaker called in to give us a race start report! It gets cut off at the end so maybe he’ll call later with more. I didn’t want to edit out the plug for the YMCA at the end because they do SO much for the racers and those who make their way to Banff! Also, Bruce Giroux checks in from Separ where he’s copping some shade from a railroad trestle.

Just got this from Will. I think that Ethan's new Spot is working fine on Trackleaders now, but I figure that his friends and family might want the actual Spot site since it shows "OK" messages, etc. From Will: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0KhHqcBUEE3NhdSlI4DOYMzrGCMtqiQc7
Emailed Matthew Lee on it, maybe post on the TD site if you have an account so people can see where he is? Name on it is Ethan TD but showing up on the Spot site as Sarah H, my friend, tech stuff to sort but link is Ethan. Spot just not playing nice with the TD site yet, I imagine Matthew will sort it out. Those fuckers are fast. His last sentence says it all, eh?

Hey Joe, Are you still going to be aggregating the daily mtbcast call ins as a single podcast this year? or just posting them individually? Just about to clear out some space on my iPod Cheers Craig

Was just looking at the race analysis on TrackLeaders (which is awesome by the way!). I've never looked at the end to end eleveation profile before. Will be interesting to see the difference between the nobo and sobo racers through Colorado. Will the SOBO be quicker since they've had longer to get used to the altitude (steady progression) or will the fresh legs of the nobo racers win out...
...Some how I suspect the former
Cheers Craig

There haven't been any updates for Ben Oney for about four hours. Could it be a problem with the device?

Damn the front-runners are hauling ass. Halfway between Elkford and Sparwood already with all the supposed snow over Elk Pass. KR/EP/AH and others pushing past Sparwood tonight no doubt. Can .... they ... sustain ... it ... for ... days ... on ... end ?

Waiting for the first adventurer to take a left at Sparwood instead of straight on the alternate. Please, please, somebody take a left!

I'm pooped already trying not to look to far down the road (3 weeks argh!). I can't believe my hubby wanted to return to tackle this beast again. He doesn't like loosin much, so he's back to finish. SS NOBO..take it babe! Proud of you!!
