Oh Lordy that climb out of the Colorado Basin is a monster. It was raining so hard when I started up in 09 that there were little whitecapped waves running down the center of the road.
Are you referring to the climb that Franck and Russ just finished?

c'mon Ethan! get back with Kref & Wookie! u can do it!
I'm with ya Erik. If anyone can do it, its definitely Ethan! I know there is a ton of territory still to cover, but if he does catch up it begs the question: Will any break stay away? (Kinda like you and Blaine last year)

Woody
In general KR and JB, the SB racers have the much easier road/grade ahead of them for a ways. But PA is putting in a most amazing NB ride and he gets up way early My sentimental vote is still for Brush mtn Lodge -- but that spike might go into some snow up high in wet snowy, muddy hike-a-bike area--hope someone has a camera along edit--humm now that I think about it a bit more I would say the terrain between PA's current position and KR/JB's is pretty much a wash go front runners!!

I see Paul rode down next to but did not cross the ford at Rock Creek--snow melt run off must still be way high as expected

Karlos Bernart called in and pulled out at the Beaverhead. He’s exhausted physically and mentally. With all of the initial problems it's understandable that overcoming difficulties on the route took their toll. Maybe next year, Karlos! Rob Roberts called in to say he’s out. His eye is better but he’s battling shoulder and neck issues. Jeffrey Tomassetti called in from near Island Park. He sounds good. And Justin Simoni called in from Ovando. He recaps his ride in his usual prose. You can get the audio here, via RSS, or on iTunes!

Looks like a good race shaping up! Go Kurt and Jefe! I see Jefe isn't running his standard platform pedals on this one.
Good luck to everyone trying conquer this beast, keep going!!!

Bummer about Karlos. Sounds like maybe he's got a bug or something, with all the dizziness, nausea, and exhaustion?

Must be...he's on to a really nice smooth downhill now, followed by path and roads to 'boat. Hopefully no pine-beetle removal logging this year alongside Stagecoach Res.

No doubt...it's dropped my jaw a few times when I do the match and it reveals the Paul A starts the day around 3 or 3:30a. It least that's what it looked like today.

Yeah, SoBo out of Rawlins really isn't a picnic, once the gravel starts. With KR and JB in Rawlins, or a few minutes away, and PA 30 to 45 mins from Steamboat, it's a toss up as to who gets to Brush Mtn first. Depends on how much time each respective rider spends in the towns. Longer stop at Orange Peel for PA? Longer stop in Rawlins looking for out-of-the-way services? I give the edge to PA at this point, but it really could go either way.

Anyone know what frame Jefe is riding? Looks like an El Mariachi steel.

I think I read where Paul plans on doing the regular route. Is so he is going way to fast as the snow still won’t be low enough to truly see what kind of sanctioned time he could lay down under more normal conditions.
