Anyone know what frame Jefe is riding? Looks like an El Mariachi steel.
I don't know the frame, but according to some pics Kurt, Jefe, Aidan and others are using rigid forks. Interesting! |

Kind of. I was confused and was talking about a SOBO 09 race but those guys are going NOBO and SOBO riders haven't even gotten there yet. It was a SNAFU on my part to get SOBO and NOBO all FUBAR. Carry on. E |

Jefe is indeed on an el Mariachi blue steel frame. I think the fork is ti. Has bottle mounts like a Fargo fork, iirc. Must be custom.

I think I read where Paul plans on doing the regular route. Is so he is going way to fast as the snow still won’t be low enough to truly see what kind of sanctioned time he could lay down under more normal conditions.
Yea, Marshall, that's what he told me. He said he'll hike up to 30 miles of snow. Anymore than that and he'll do the bypass. He's putting in quite the ride. I'd guess his tire issues are behind him. Gary |

Denis Chezelle (NoBo) stopped in today (Del Norte). He got a new tire and chain at the post office and his almost brand new X-9 rear shifter had failed. We found him a shifter and got everything set up. Yet another Nano sidewall cut, his rear tire had a cut I could stick my little finger through.
He's using a seat post rack. The first one failed before Grants. He found another at Wal-Mart, I hope it makes it all the way to Banff. Has anyone completed the GDMBR with one of these racks that survived the whole trip? This is probably around the 10th one I know of breaking. Too bad some riders aren't aware of the issue with them.

An earlier (page18?) link to a Kurt R. interview had a description and picture of his bike which IIRC was a Ti El Mariachi with a rigid custom White (Bros?) Carbon Fork.

I know of some racks making it all the way, but it's rare. Of course, I'm sure riders are aware of the pitfalls of racks, but either are trying to save a buck by not ordering seat bags, or can't wait the 3+ months until Relevate or Carousel makes them something. I'm also seeing 26" wheels in some this year's pics. It's just a reminder that it's not about the bike. TD is truly 90% mental, if not more. |

All these blue dots are quite amazing to follow BUT
Just a quick shout out to all the “guests’ following this thread, all the friends and family members of all these many TDR racers.
So far lots of time/comments spent here on the leaders, naturally, and also about racers some of us already know from this forum or other races
But why not please sign on and chime in with info about your racer! Photos, links, race or route comments made by your racer during their calls to you , etc etc
I for one would like to know more about all the ‘other’ racers, not just the leaders. imo many times the most interesting adventures are happening further back in the pack and part of the spectator fun is to hear about them.

I will chime in - following my brother, Norb DeKerchove, from Boise, ID. He has accomplished so much - numerous Ironman competitions and now this! Am very proud of him - the local newspaper ran a story about him and taking on the Tour Divide. He has so many supporters both locally and across the US.

That's awesome! I listened to Norb's call-in yesterday and he painted a vivid picture of the journey he is having. It made me want to be there, that's for sure. Detailed and relaxed, he sounds great. From Butte to his camp location last night you could lay his track right on top of my 2010 track. Ha we camped within a ½ mile of the same location after leaving Butte. Of course I can see he may be sleeping in a bit and stopping longer but is riding faster than I did. Ha, next time he calls tell him to quite hitting the snooze button |
