My Husband is in the race this year as his 40th Birthday present and just wanted to say to him and all of the fellow Dad's out there today - Happy Father's Day! I too am addicted to the dots and reading the blogs about all of the riders experiences.Such a sense of community. So nice also to have talked to Chris Bennett on the phone yesterday - thanks so much for your call and hope to one day meet you and your wife as well as any of the other riders that may happen to come through Fernie. Thank you all for the updates.   Wink

To the person who said they had to explain the drop in productivity at work due to watching the blue dots....I can totally relate! icon_biggrin

I'm following two Virginians.  Someone recently gave a bio on Jim Hodges.  Here's a bit on David Horton.  David is an ultrarunning legend, race director and professor at Liberty University.  He's done many of the big hundred mile running races, and continues to be the most enthusiastic race director.  If you'd like to run a 100k race that starts at midnight the first week in December in the lovely Virginia mountains, Dave will sign you up!  Last year, after a lengthy ultrarunning career, he got a knee injury that seems to have ended his running.  But he loves the mountains, and quickly turned his energy to mountain biking.  He's a complete bike newbie in the last year (at age 57 or so).  He is doing fabulous out there, making all his east coast friends proud.

Jim and David have also each hiked the Appalachian Trail, and David held the speed record for a while.

Any idea, which kind of problem the leading group is dealing with at the moment?

Edit: Seems as if the Little Rock Creek is impassable...

Question for all the past TDer's out there.
Why do some of the racers not call in to the MTBCast? I figure some don't want to be bothered, but it's great to hear all of them.
I know family, friends, and fans love hearing there voices.

Looks like they all went up to the creek, and turned back to the 134 detour.  Strange, because Paul callled that in on his NOBO route, and they saw him yesterday.

as creek levels can drop rapidly, riders were urged to sight-verify before skipping it on the paved road.

Here's a shout out to James Hodges from Northern Virginia- The most fit 60 year old person I know.  He is riding Sobo.  Jim in previous years had gone out and rode section by section of the Divide trail each summer until he completed it.  He must have got the bug to race it.

I love to hear about these old guys. I'm 63 myself and have knocked off most of the CO section and about a 1/3rd of CO Trail. Hoping to do the Banff to Whitefish section later this year and more of the CT. All the racers, especially those back in the pack, inspire me to set bigger goals for myself.

Happy fathers day to all those out on the trail (or watching in on there kids). Will toast you formally later today with a beer or two and wish I could meet any of you and share one in person with more stories about your journeys. Thanks to all the support that allows us to share parts of these adventures too!

Joe, Matt, Scott, whomever!  I am out of the race.  I am in Pinedale and have decided that I am not fast enough to do this in my allotted 3 weeks vacation time.  The apparent lack of sunshine in Wyoming and the whole vegan thing is leaving me feeling a little weak in comparison to my fellow racing bud Dylan Taylor.  I have transferred all of my riding will to Dylan so watch out, wolverine don't give a f@ck.  I'm pretty sure he will be charging past the pack in the next few days into a solid placing in the teens.  To all the other racers out there, be safe.  And to all the armchair folk, thanks for watching!

JF-mtnbiker : Great pictures! It is really great for those of us stalking on the computer to see real faces and landscapes instead of blue dots.  I hope you post more. THANKS!

It's been fun for me to "stalk" some racers to give a bit of a report and a pic for fans and a loved one out there. Couldn't get everyone because I have to sleep (Kurt and Ethan came through at 11:30 ish) and the wife has me busy on the spring honey do list. ha.

Unfortunatly, for reporting purposes, I am now over in western Idaho to do some riding myself and let my kid get in some hockey play. Great dirt roads, gravel and singletrack has my name on it over here. I'll be online "stalking"  like the rest of ya for a few days. Gotta love technology and the work everyone is doing to make it possible to keep up with the action. Full beer glass raised high to Matthew, Scott, Mtb Cast and all others. JFoster

Happy Father's Day to all the racers and race followers!  The kids "made" this card for their Pops.  Thought y'all might get a smile from seeing it.

Nathan! Was following your dot. Great work, and even more so that you were attempting to forage vegan through nowhere America... Can't imagine that was an easy task.

HI, everyone, Ross Delaplane's mom here.  His dad and I are addicted to the Leaderboard and can't pass the 'puter without checking in.   I was so hoping Sandra Musgrave would continue on, and sorry to hear about Russ McBride having to drop out.  You ALL have fans!  And, yes, Ross made it to Salida in time to pick up his bike bags at the PO before it closed at 12pm.  A BIG SHOUT-OUT to Tamara, Ross's wife, for tracking the misdelivered bags down in Golden (sent Express by Revelate, postal carrier threw 'em on a front porch a block away) and forwarding them to Salida for pickup.  All is well; the bags are hangin' off Ross's 39er!  Lovin' this blog and all the tidbits about the riders.
