Any chance Mr. Branham would slap on a bigger gear post Cuba or Silver City for the closing part of the race? I've never ridden the course but have read that that's where SS is most disadvantaged.
Anything is possible, and I have not spoken with Jefe, but my guess is he will be riding what he has just from knowing him.

Thanks for the link. Rob and Parker are doing GREAT and have been very very consistent in knocking off big miles from day 1!! Do you know if they plan to ride together all the way into AW or if they plan to duke it out “mano-a-mano” as they get close to the finish? A sprint between the two from Beaverhead Work Center to AW would be way cool to watch!! edit: thats about a 200 mile sprint bty I am not sure if they plan on staying together or "sprinting" to the finish, but that's a good question....I will try and ask him next time he calls!

Is Volume 1 still available as well? I have volume 2 on the way, but volume 1 was a great read.

Appears the gears vs. ss is coming into play. I don't know the road, but Kurt has ~5 miles on Jefe by looking at their respective timestamps. Their SPOT's seem to be updating approximately the same time.

When you watch a terrific finish like this it's kind of sad that one has to be the 2nd. Cheers to all TD-Racers - it's fantastic treat that keeps me regularly return to the monitor!!!

Absolutely! Volume 1 is available here: https://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-cordillera-volume-1/11051486Proceeds from Volume 1 benefit the Adventure Cycling Association. It was our first so it's a little rougher around the edges. It's still great reading and excellent prep for the race but I'm partial to the current edition. Eric

Both I and II are great reads and for a good cause. I hope someone steps up so there will be a III.

Kurt's latest spot stamp says mile 2220, so about 525 miles not accounting for alternates routes.

Kurt and Jefe are in a section that might give Kurt a ‘geared’ advantage, rolling pavement till Grants. On the other hand as soon as they turn that big corner by Pueblo Pintado they might see a hot desert head wind like a lot of the racers last yr did.

From the big corner at Pueblo Pintado a quick glance says there are 439 race route miles left (per my 2010 GPS tracks)

I wouldn't write Jefe off just yet. Spinning along at low power might just leave him enough energy to go non-stop to AW, pulling a Nobile and stealing the show. If anyone can pull that off it'd be Jefe.
But, all those miles on pavement, on a SS - his ass is killing him right about now!
