Proceeds from Volume 1 benefit the Adventure Cycling Association. It was our first so it's a little rougher around the edges. It's still great reading and excellent prep for the race but I'm partial to the current edition.

Paul has thus far taken the snow detours - so he has ridden the same route as the Sobos.  It looks like he's doing it faster too!  Here's the latest data crunch from the combined nobo/sobo's in the not yet released next version of bluedot.

Will he do the Flathead instead of taking the detour?  He is simply flying, and has basically ridden an ITT since northern NM.  A brilliant ride!

And...Aiden!  He has got some grit, wow.

Paul called me to put in a request for the full detour cue set. We've cleared the full detour option for Nobo's (not originally the route plan) so it looks like Paul may treat us to a straight-up comparison. I have to wonder if the Stryker hike will not be slower/more rotten for him.

Sounds wet and wild. I hope that he's OK--which seems likely since he is able to restart. Stories about bears are always fun (assuming that everyone is OK), so I can't wait to hear his!

Hands down the best way to tackle the Basin is with an evening resupply in AC, an early bivy as far out in the basin as you can get, then an early (noonish) arrival to Rawlins...followed by a quick exit b/f afternoon thunderstorms and wind get too heinous.

The guys' been impressive the past week and a half, but now I give HUGE props to Justim Simoni.  His spot tracker shows him blowing by the Brooks Lake Rd after cresting Togwotee Pass.  Then realizing his "Ooops!", he turned around went back uphill to the pass, and is now slogging it out some more on Brooks Lake Road.  That road was a sucker-punch-to-the-gonads for me last year with its mud and snow.  I can only imagine what the terrain and conditions are dishin' out this time, on this road which curves around onto NE facing slopes and is mostly in the trees.  DO IT DUDE!

Firstly, thanks to the rider that picked up my Spot way back somewhere between Canyon Creek & Butte.
Apparently it was at Brush Mountain Lodge when I was there last night but I didnt know. Never mind.
Thanks to those who are making an effort to get it back to me.

Oops.  That didn't look quite right on the map and then I realized I was using a low resolution track.  Using the high-res track it looks like this.  The numbers don't exactly line up with trackleaders...not exactly sure where the difference lies but this is probably closer to actual than the first image I posted.

I wanted to send a shoutout to the VA guys as I'm also in VA and spent most of my youth in Vienna, VA where JP Evans is from.

Awesome!  We have a good Vienna vibe going on here with JP's parents and 4 siblings all watching the dots.  Mom and I are the only ones still in VA, though.

Any chance Mr. Branham would slap on a bigger gear post Cuba or Silver City for the closing part of the race?  I've never ridden the course but have read that that's where SS is most disadvantaged.

He's been keeping up with one fit KR who has a full menu of gears for the whole race. I think he's lookin ok. There may be alot of headwind like last year. But I gotta say that NM is not easy. Not at all.

I am in the Albuquerque area.  I rode a 60 miler today out in the desert and I'm telling you it's WAY HOT.  It was 100 today in Albuquerque and the wind (out of the south here) feels like a blast furnace - no joke.

The sun felt like a bazooka on my skin.  It is SO HOT here now that I can't believe these guys are still riding.  The desert here right now has heat stroke written all over it.  There's not even any shade out there.  Moreover, it's going to get even hotter over the next few days.

This is truly brutal.

Okay, so I see this scene with you sitting on like a porch. Dejay happens by, you sipping a beer thinking, "That's odd." Dejay rolling by but you not saying a word. A bit later, having hit the dead end, he rolls back. Without stopping he looks up and says, "Dude!?"
