Wow this is close!  I'd estimate that Kurt is about 15 miles ahead of Paul at the moment.  Really quite amazing how close for going in opposite directions.  Impressive to say the least.

Are the Sobo and Nobo riders really being viewed as being in the same race?  Isn't there too great a difference in the wind and snowpack to make a valid comparison?  Apologies if this has already been discussed....

From Sheila Reiter's FB posting of just a few minutes ago:
Hey everyone.  I have a brief minute to through some highlights out there from the TD

Ton of climbing

Every day brings something epic to the table even when you think it will be a "recovery" day.

We have seen so much but can only remember the past couple days.

There are almost no words to describe riding the Basin.  So incredibly vast and empty.  We camped at Diagnus (sp?) well 2 nights ago; a pipe coming out of the ground in the middle of no where.  There were thunderstorms all around us with fantastic lightning but you could see the sun set just beyond it.  In the 2 days we cycled through this area, we crossed the divide 5 times and rode up on a rim of it for miles.

Observations.  On a road where we literally saw no other car for 100 miles we saw those traffic counter things they stretch across the road.  Really?  Shooting signs of any kind is not just a Texas thing.  Canada has the nicest drivers.

Rawlins last night - don't ever go there.

Epic Epic wind today with thousands of feet of climbing and no reward because the wind would push at you as you tried to descend.  Got to Medicine Bow National Forest for our first trees in 3 days.  Ahhhh.

Oh, and my brother Joe has turned into a delightful stalker.  Calls in the weirdest places.

Love to you all - Steamboat here we come Cheesy

By the way, for those who follow TD.  Dave Blumenthal's widow is here at the lodge marking the 1yr date of his passing.

Agree, I've got KR at 82.5 to go as of 2 mins ago, PA at 108 to go 13 mins ago.  Will either one stop for a break?  KR ease up knowing Jefe is 10 miles back?  PA could take 2nd, certainly 3rd if Jefe doesn't slow down.

Wow. I had no idea how close this was getting. Now it's about 11 p.m. MDT. My prediction is Kurt into AW first at 3:45 a.m., Jefe at 4:05 a.m., and Paul reaches Banff just before 7 a.m.

Incredible finishes about-to-happen!  This is exciting stuff.  Can't believe Paul is closing in on the finish so close to Kurt and Jefe too.

Looks fantastic compared to the rail trail through ID Cheesy

I've heard several groans about the rail trail this year. It's always dusty, bumpy and boring but what was it like this time around? A sloppy mess?

Given the amount of night riding N and S, I think I would rather be riding into AW than Banff rig ht now.

32.02miles to go for Kurt  thumbsup
Paul A's Spot seems to have stopped or has Paul stopped??
My Mate Lance is camped high on the Indiana Pass road at 11224ft. That's very high for a Kiwi, brrrr it'll be cold up there.
I had my worst day of the whole GDMBR tour up there, snowing and below freezing, and yet I am still super jealous that it's not me out there camping  icon_scratch

KR - 29 to go
JB - 60 to go (stopped for an hour a couple hours back)
PA - 70 to go (stopped for 1-2hrs but moving again)

Looks like I should have emailed in my finishing time guess, will only be a few minutes off if leaderboard projections hold.

That's funny. There wasn't a breath of wind and barely a cloud in the sky when I was up there. I spent an hour soaking in the view, sorting out some gear issues and loving it. Hopefully Lance is enjoying similar conditions.

Looks like Kurt is 10 miles out and soon to crest the last rise on the Divide. Anybody got the current time in NM?

10:30pm down here.
Pretty soon Kurt will be in a position where he could get two flat tires and break a chain and still scoot to the finish in first. But Paul and Jefe - man, that's still too hard to call! 53 minutes since Paul's last spot was posted - could he be over the last climb and flying downhill to Banff right now?

Hope there's a reception waiting for them all, despite the time of day.

10:45...  I guess that puts you in Kiwi land.  Kurt should finish just as the sky starts to lighten up ahead of the sunrise.  What a monster performance.

Yep - Kiwi land it is.

C'mon spots! Refresh, damn you - refresh!

Anyone else remember the days when you had to wait for 2 weeks to see the latest Tour de France coverage? How times have changed.

KR is cranking up the speed on the last stretch. Probably across the line already now.
JB is probably not far behind, but his spot seems a little lagged.

Yep - nicely done Kurt. Some brilliant pacing in the last few days.

And congrats to Jefe and Paul who must also be finishing mighty soon. Best of luck to the rest of the field for a safe and speedy completion.
