Though I am no racer, the route calls to me, as it did Dave, and who knows, perhaps some day Linnaea and I will ride it together. Hi Lexi I sincerely hope that happens someday Marshal

Just wanted to chime in some support for Cricket, will miss following her. I hope she'll be back next year, she's always been a favorite in my book.

Just got my email copy from Adventure Cycling and read this piece. Does anybody know anyone worth nominating? WHO'S YOUR HERO? The nomination period for the 2011 Bicycle Travel Awards opened July 1, and will continue through September 30. Those awards are: the June Curry Trail Angel Award, the Pacesetter Award, the Sam Braxton Bicycle Shop Award, and the Volunteer of the Year Award. All are open to nominations from anyone, except for the Volunteer of the Year Award, which is internal to the staff of Adventure Cycling. So, nominate your favorite trail angel, pacesetter, or bike shop today! http://www.adventurecycling.org/awards

Better buy those copies of Cordillera now becasue Justin will be in AW soon. It looks like he took a 2 hour break at Pie Town and then has been riding all night. At 4am he is 50 miles behind the still sleeping autobus. How many riders can he pass before Mexico?

Chicks...
Actually, that brings up an obvious point I didn't make... the person - Justin, Kurt, Matt, Jefe, Deejay, whoever - would have to be willing to donate their time, they'd really be the ones doing the giving. But who knows Cathy, maybe Justin would be willing to be auctioned off in a "win a date with Justin" auction. :-)

As another fund raiser idea for Linnaea: I'd think there are many people like me that'd be willing to pay good money to be able to talk to or have a question and answer session with some of the TD's bigger names such as Matt, Kurt, Jefe, Deejay, or Justin. I know I'd be willing to put in a benjamin to have that sort of opportunity. Not sure how to handle the forum such as a call, VTC, email, or even in person lunch opportunity, but it seems like we could figure that part out case by case. Perhaps make it an auction or raffle, or something like that. Anyone have any thoughts or alternate idea's on this?
Justin is a screen print artist. Maybe he could design a t-shirt with the route he followed artistically enhanced with: snow sections, bears, moose, deserts, and rail trails, etc... and offer them for sale.

I think an " Eat , Sleep , Ride " Type of T shirt or more likely a cycling top would be a great seller and if a clothing maker would do them at cost and the proceeds go to the fund it would raise a lot of cash Any good designers out in the bikepacking world care to take a go at it ? Rick

I'd be happy to allow use of my periodic table of the elements inspired graphic to be used on a T or stickers caps, mugs, etc. for fund raising purposes... Date can change year to year... Organizations that the $$ went to could change year to year as well. Maybe the ACA puts them in the store?
Just want to have input on what the final design looks like. Color, size, placement. I can and am happy to do some of the work.

Sounds like we have the beginings of a plan ?
Be nice if we can bump up the fund even a little .... Its always been known endurance riders have big hearts and its not all to do with training !

Overnight: Stephen Huddle called in from Lima. And Ross Delaplane called in with his finish call. He got a nice surprise in Banff. This is a three part-er. You can get the audio here, via RSS, or on iTunes!

More this afternoon: Steve Moore called in from his finish in Banff. And Cricket Butler called in from Butte to say she can’t continue due to knee issues.

Better buy those copies of Cordillera now becasue Justin will be in AW soon.
Indeed. Cordillera editor Eric B. is offline for a few days and asked that I post an update: Cordillera sales are going well. The matching donation "clause" from the Super-Awesome Anonymous Matcher expires along with Justin Simoni's arrival at the finish line in AW. Now's the time to make a Cordillera purchase count the most towards the college fund of the late Dave Blumenthal's daughter. Spread the word. Thanks, Mike

An Important AnnouncementYesterday I was contacted by a fan of the Tour Divide Race who has offered up a Cordillera sales matching challenge to the entire Bikepacking community! For every Cordillera Volume 2 sold from now until the day that Justin Simoni reaches Antelope Wells (or quits) the donor will make an equal donation to Linnaea Blumenthal's college fund. He's matching the full $15 purchase price for each book sold! This is incredible! Now, thanks to this generous match over $21 from each and every Cordillera Volume 2 sold will go directly into Linnaea Blumenthal's college 529 savings plan. There is no maximum donation. The donor is prepared to lay out some serious cash to help Linnaea but he's challenging all of us pull a little harder too. So please everyone, even if you have purchased a copy of the Cordillera please buy another copy or two. They make great gifts and have been getting terrific reviews so I know your friends and family will want their own copy. If you don't know about the Cordillera Volume 2 check out this thread: http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,2096.0.htmlPurchase your copy here: https://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-cordillera/15659154Thanks everyone and please help spread the word via Facebook, blogs, club emails, etc. Eric -editor Bringing forward Eric's original announcement regarding what's happening related to the matching donation and the Cordillera, and Justin Simoni's part in the action...
