Cheering for Nick Kennedy who just graduated from Texas A&M in May.  He is at the back of the pack but still going!  He is 22 years old.  Is he the youngest to ever tackle/complete the TD?
Wow!  Fantastic to hear that someone so young has taken on the challenge of TD.  I've been watching him from across the pond while tracking my other half (KC) who is 30 years older than Nick!  I hope he gets to Silver City tonight.  And go Justin S - almost at Silver City!

And.... I don't think Nick is at the back of the pack.  James Hodges commented on his page that he was in Pie Town today - he lost his tracker a few days ago.  One of the comments on James' tracker page mentions that he is 60 - could we have the youngest and oldest (assuming they are the youngest and oldest of TD11) at the back of the pack?  It would be great if they came in together  headbang

Thanks for keeping an eye on Nick.  Not certain how many people are still watching at this point.  Best to KC.  He should sleep well on his flight back across the pond!

Don't want to panic anyone but....
Just had an email from KC, he's back in Silver City and part of it says "Earlier today I found [out] a rider fell on this section and broke his collarbone yesterday perhaps 150 miles from the finish.  This rider had brought snow shoes and went over all the passes we avoided."  It must be Justin Simoni.  His tracker is looking odd.  Kev doesn't have a phone so I can't find out more.  Can anyone find out anything.

Justin's Tracker show him at the Gila Regional Medical Center.  I haven't researched that any further, but I thought I would mention it since I had looked it up.  I don't know any details and haven't heard anything from anyone else.

It is Justin- dislocated collar bone - KC will try and see him tomorrow if he's still there.

Thanks for the info.  I know my daughter, Cathy P., was tracking Justin and rooting for him and Linnea...

Justin Simoni called in from Gila Medical Center to say he’s out with a shoulder injury. And Stephen Huddle called in from Pinedale.

Disappointed to hear that Justin is out - I'm sure he is too, but wishing him all the best for a speedy recovery!!

Justin - you are an inspiration!

Really sad to hear about Justin.  What a bold attempt.  He should feel really good about what he did, even if it was cut short.

Now, does anyone know what happened to Jackie Bonn?  Still haven't seen anything further since she showed up on the Scratched list.

So Sorry to hear about Justin. He had a great ride and should feel good about what he did. A real adventure!

Now I think we need a new "fundraiser" for Linnaea. I'm willing to throw in $25 for every day that Stephen H beats his previous best time, which I think is 26 days. It looks like he is well on his way to besting that by a few days. Anyone else willing to throw in a few bucks per day for this? Is this betting? (I did grow up in the horse country of KY)

Or think about funds for Justin because I suspect he will be saddled with a substantial medical bill and probably no insurance. He did his amazing venture on a much tighter budget than most of the rest of us.

Back at home, I uploaded my pics, few people (I didn't see many), mainly the scenery of the ride

Roland - Great point about Justin. Might be a good time to donate a bit more to his cause. Also, congratulations on your finish! And thank you for your detailed updates. It was a window into the details of the race.  thumbsup

Mark Erhart called in with some final thoughts. Yes, we all know he finished. He was a little concerned he was still on the leaderboard.

It's always tough to hear about somebody having to bail from a race. But it's especially hard when it's due to a crash like Justin's, or an injury like Cricket's. Heal up guys, and I hope to watch your blue dots in a coming year!

I donated a little money to Justin when he headed into the snow.  I sent some more to help with his medical bills.:

Hi Roland,

Great pictures and account of your trip! It looks like you were riding on flat pedals. How did you find that? I'm still undecided on pedals for my 2012 attempt.

Cheers,
James
